2. FEATURE: To Persevere is Favorable

This is an excerpt from Warrior of the Light by Paulo Coelho:

A Warrior of the Light respects the main teaching of the I Ching: “To persevere is favorable.”

He knows that perseverance is not the same thing as insistence.  There are times when battles go on longer than necessary, draining him of strength and enthusiasm.

At such moments, the Warrior thinks: “A prolonged war finally destroys the victors too.”

Then he withdraws his forces from the battlefield and allows himself a respite.  He perseveres in his desire, but knows he must wait for the best moment to attack.

A Warrior always returns to the fray.  He never does so out of stubbornness, but because he has noticed a change in the weather.

3. The Personal Touch

From desperate and dark times early in the year, I’ve emerged like a butterfly.

Somehow, unexpectedly, I find myself sitting peacefully in the lovely Canfield residence at 7am…typing.

In 30 minutes it’s time for kick boxing with personal trainer in the private gym next to the guest suite I’m staying in.

Jack and Inga have been so warm and welcoming; it’s still surprising to me that the universe providing such abundance.

I left New York July 10 for a quick 10 day trip, and….well….just never went back. I did the Transformational Leadership Council retreat (Marianne Williamson was one of my favourites, as well as Inga Canfield and Zen Debrucke) in Vail, then Calgary for 3 weeks with my new Canadian family (thinking of buying a house there), then Harbin Hot Springs for 10 days, the SANG conference with AMAZING authors and speakers (where I got to connect with Jack more).

Then it was off to Ojai, CA for 28 DAYS WITH BYRON KATIE. I don’t think I’ll write about that just now; only to say it was super intense, probably priceless, and I’m thrilled to not be there now 😉

I’m postponing my Australian trip for a few weeks so I can hang out in LA, and write the book from this amazing home office nestled in the hills, and spend time with my new friend Zen. We’re re-branding, and the book will be called “The Wealthy Gypsy – How to Create a Lifestyle of Freedom, from a Lifestyle of Service”. My intention is to have it written by November 30, and then to self publish and launch early in the new year.

I’m off now to yet another course, and then it’s play-work all the way!

Love to you all

David

I am just comming out of a battle for territory (gift, mission) given to me and almost lost by me because I did not see the enemy coming. My next step is to take back what is my territory to steward and stand for it. Future steps will be to continueing praying my eyes be open and blindness will not overshadow me again.

I have just walked off the battelfied after a 7-month emotional battle with my ex-husband over custody of our two children. After our divorce, I volunteered with a mission in Lesotho and now they have offered me a permanent position, which I know is part of my spiritual destiny and Life Purpose. My ex didn’t want the children to change to a different schooling system, didn’t like the idea of them being exposed continously to missionary work and envrionments and didn’t want them living on a farm in the mountains where there are no satellites, no television and no internet connection that woudl keep them rooted in the “modern world”. The battle was so draining for all of us that eventually he said I should come to Lesotho with the kids, let them start school and share in my new life, but that he intends to take them with him when he moves to Italy next year. So this is very much a respite from the battle that I know is likely to escalate into war unless I get my ex to come and visit the farm and see how Warriors of the Light from different faiths are making a real difference to a coomunity devastated by HIV/Aids and re-think his plans of starting his own business in Italy. The extract from Warriots of the Light was just what I needed at this time to persever with the desire to see my ex change his materialistic, technology-driven perspective of life and realise that we are all spiritual beings on a journey to wholeness, no matter what form that journey takes. Thank you so much David for being attuned to everyone’s need to understand when to war and when to retreat.

Francis, little artist, I can’t help you to meet your material needs right now but the project I am working on at the mission needs people like you to come as volunteers for 3-6 months if you can afford it. After volunteering to teach art to Aids orphans whom we look after, we do everything we can to find corporate sponsors to pay your expenses if you want to stay and become part of this venture. It is a faith-based project but we are neutral in terms of what kind of faith people adhere to. There are mainstream Christians, evangelical Christians, Bahai’s and Zionists all working together for the common good and we limit the faith-based elements to the understanding that we are all children of God and can only apply our respective faith in practical ways when we are doing something for the good of all and sharing wealth with those in need. If you would like to explore the possibility of volunteering on this project, please visit our website: http://www.fullcirclelearning.org and contact Theresa Langley to tell her you would like information about the Louis gregory Centre in Lesotho.

Thanks for the great post David – I had not caught up with you for a while (will do so now on FB) so wow what a trip you’re having and looking forward to reading more about the book and your adventures.

Great post too. In these times of media doom and gloom, probably a number one thing is to stay away from negative thinking as much as poss.

@Jane – my message to you is that your life sounds like it’s going exactly as mine did a few years back when I too stopped working as a high paid consultant, and am now working both here in the UK and South Africa as a life and business life coach. My advice is go for it and take the leap, it will be the best decision you take, and giving yourself a month off to recharge and sort out your website etc is a great idea. And in these days of social networking and blogs, even a website in the traditional sense is no longer totally required or as onerous as it used to be! So I wish you all the very best.

    5. Take action
    6. Build some fun
    7. Remember the pain = learning
    8. The learning from 1yr, 5yrs, 10yrs allows me to handle these situations now to the best of my ability.
9 stay away from negatives, let go of resentment and
    10. Make it happen as the are only two choices, lay down or walk tall, walk forward and enjoy.

I want to return home to live in the UK from Australia and have a coaching practice that crosses those countries and all in between (as Ihave worked in most of them!). But I just seem to be totally depleted and exhausted (confirmed by doctor!). So I need to grant myself the time to take a break and use that break to finally do my website and enjoy my lessons without it being midnight! I am going to take the leap and resign from the highly stressful paid consultancy work next week. And give myself a month to do just that!
There – articulated … now to bring to life!

    Hallo!!

I am from Holland, and I believe this is international. I have really big dreams for the future. To accomplish something I need money, so I invested time to find the best suitable way to make my money: babysitting 3 days a week. Leaving me with four days to make way to improve all the things in and around the house, and with setting up a practise, and making more art, and find 1000 True Fans that will support me to do the things exactly my way! To let everyone in their value to do the same!

    Friendly greetings,
    Francis, little artist 🙂
email me if its such a big of a coincident that you were just thinking of the helps of a spiritual hippie artist!
