    Good news to report!

Received a non-profit sponsor for a new internet site I will create with them. The Society of the Divine Word (a Catholic religious organization) is sponsoring my videotaping of professional storytellers telling stories around the theme of racial justice. This will be great cross-reference PR for my Diversity Curriculum and Teachers’ Making a Difference Coaching Series that I am launching in July and my eventual Culture Comfort TV program (I will be searching for sponsors for these programs). We tape in August. Site will be live for January Martin Luther King holiday.

In terms of tips: All I had to do was write a simple proposal. This is the benefit of long-term relationships. I have worked with The Angels Studio, a communication ministry of Society of the Divine Word for ten years. They have sponsored my JustStories Festival and performances in the school project in the past. Just based on past successes, I was able to launch this new idea with a couple of meetings and a simple proposal and agreement.

    Hi everyone!

Jodie Randisi here. I’m getting close to closing a deal with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. It helps to have a celebrity or two attached, which we do!! BBBS gave me a corp sponsor who is dragging their feet and not communicating. I’ve offered to meet them face to face if it would help seeing as we’re going for a 4 month summer book tour. Looks as if our timeline is being pushed into fall but we’re gaining momentum despite slow communications. I would love to know more about pitching for reality tv. Our project could easily be adapted.

Good afternoon everyone and thanks for allowing me to join the group. My name is Ron Dilbert and I am the founder and CEO of Single Parent Power – an organization that helps empower Single Parent families, as individuals and as a family.

I am working on a camp for kids 7 to 12 years old with their single parents and a retreat for teens and their single parents.

I have spoken with and have on board the following not for profits:

    1) Ronald McDonald House of NYC and Long Island
    2) Coalition Against Child Abuse
    3) Boys and Girls Club on Long Island
    4) Speaking with Make A Wish Foundation

I am now researching corporations to get involved.

I look forward to supporting you and also for your feedback and ideas as I move forward with my projects.

Have a great day, a wonderful holiday and I look forward to speaking with you on the call!

    Whew!

They called back and we spoke for 20 min.

He threw up all the roadblocks (that his superiors might
throw in) – the main one being “well we love having people
raise funds for us but there’s nothing we can do”.

WHAT I LEARNED: I did too much pitching, and too little:
“Well, you’ve seen the outline, what would you say if they ask that?
How do YOU think we could increase donations? What would
you do if you were running it?”

I talked about co-creating but it never really happened –
    it was all one way.

In every conversation i get a little better, and learn a bit
more about how to handle it.

He asked if I could estimate funds raised, and I’ve actually
now created a model to estimate it.

So I feel a little discouraged, but realized he didn’t shut me
down, he said he’ll float up a weather balloon and see if
they like it, and we’ll talk next week.

Had my first face to face meeting!

They LOVE it, and want it to be this big
reality TV show which I’m open to.

They said they can bring this to
    Bank of America and Microsoft.
(and they seem interested in having
    the red cross on board).

Next step: I’m creating the proposal now,
and a pitch letter for Microsoft and B of A
for my contact to tweak; then she’ll introduce
    me to the right people.

I’m a little overwhelmed by this whole reality
possibility, but I’m excited, happy and pumped.

Today I kicked butt!. Spoke to Division Manager at Rotary in charge of fundraising and he asked for the pitch via email. Quite accessible.

Went through several people at the Sierra Club (850,000 people on their email list) and eventually got a woman who spent 40 min on the phone with me. Really grilled me and threw up road blocks. And I had this FLASH on the phone – what if instead of VOTING for the person they want to get the Best Job In The World, people DONATED. even 50 cents. The person with the largest funds donated gets a wild card interview. She LOVED that idea.
Then I said – why don’t we get 10,000 people to SPONSOR this traveller as they travel the world? For every week they do this the person pays $10.
(and if the traveller doesn’t pull their weight they are fired and #2 goes in to fill their place!) Was hesitant because it involves a book (and they have 70 titles) but she got over that. She loves it, and she was 5 min late leaving for the symphony

Kiva also called back and want to see something via email.

ok – I just picked up the phone to pitch 2 non profits again – this time the Sierra Club Foundation about my big project. left two voicemails, and feel great that I took the step

Then I emailed one laptop per child, and two people at Rotary. I emailed Steven Stokes regarding contacts, and chased up a contact in Australia who sponsored me to Rotary.

Left a voicemail for VP Development at Kiva as well.

    REPORT ON CALL #2
Susan absent in advance, Amy no show – sent apologies later.
Steven kicked ass with a meeting with the higher ups at Rotary; going back in 2 weeks with a proposal
Ellen has a host of good ideas and possibilities
Edith working on her Emirates package and lined up Constant Contact.
David tried million dollar book model with 2 nonprofits, and did a screen video of the ‘role model’ for his project at http://www.islandreefjob.com.

My major insight during the call: it’s time to pick up the phone and line up 1-3 non profits. Time to call 10-20 and find someone who wants this. No need to worry about the corporate yet.

Ellen – sure, invite Steve, he’d be awesome to have.

    MY PROGRESS THIS WEEK
Called two non profits to offer books to their members/volunteers. Got one ‘no thanks’ and the other hasn’t called back yet.

I’ve researched non profits (e.g. Kiva) and found out who their partners are.

Come up with a list of potential corporates – being Apple, Microsoft, Virgin Airlines, Sony (camcorders), WordPress

Corporate Criteria: international locations, and brands the traveller could interact with easily (e.g. blogging software, streaming video, skype, elance, starbucks). Their marketing message fits with being innovative, living fully, helping the world, lifestyle of freedom.

Viewed Apple’s press releases and annual reports. found they are pushing mobileme right now (thanks Amy!) And they don’t seem to work with a particular non profit. But they are trying to appear ‘green’, so partnering with a green non profit may help.

SEEKING: global non profit that helps with anxiety and depression, global non profit helps the environment. Also considering Rotary and one laptop per child.

    Hi All,

Catching up here, now that David got the blog is working for Macs. Thanks!

I did hear the entire first call, though you couldn’t hear me until I called back in. Maybe the problem was that I was the first one on the call, before David, the moderator. And yes, it was a great call!

I’m not sure whether it was SUSAN or EDITH or both that were focused on companies that want to market to small businesses, but in the last two days, I’ve seen and heard these two goodies (maybe everyone already knows this):
    1. Verizon is advertising a new product for small businesses (didn’t catch what it is).
    2. Wells Fargo is claiming to be “America’s #1 lender to small business.”

RE David’s posting of my list of candidates, I could invite Steve Harrison if you want (I know he’s “into” working support groups). Maybe too late now. I just couldn’t get into the blog to see your request until now.

This from ELLEN – 3 candidates:

(does anyone know Steve well enough to invite him?)

Steve Harrison, co-owner (with his brother, Bill) of Bradley Communications

Located in Philadelphia, Steve is a major affiliate of Brendon Bruchard’s, and he was at the workshop. He got a lot of the people into the workshop, including me.
He publishes RTIR, “Radio Television Interview Report,” conducts the National Publicity Summit and the Quantum Leap program, both of which I’ve participated in; both excellent.
He has a gatekeeper, Nancy Ippoliti. Her email is: Nancy@rtir.com, phone: (800) 989-1400 ext. 125

Paul Cutright, of PaulandLayne.com. Now in Santa Fe, NM, he and his wife, Layne, have been very successful relationship coaches for 30 years. They do in-depth work, psychologically sophisticated and spiritually oriented. We just did a very successful JV promotion. Good people.
    paul@paulandlayne.com

Susan Harrow, very skilled media coach (in San Rafael), also spiritually oriented, but doesn’t go there unless she thinks that’s the client’s perspective. Author of several books, like “How to Sell Yourself Without Selling Your Soul” and one on how to get on Oprah. Teaches workshops.
