2. FEATURE: Silence Before Battle

This is an excerpt from Warrior of the Light by Paulo Coelho:

The Warrior of the Light recognizes the silence that precedes an important battle.

The silence says “Things have stopped.  Why not forget about fighting and enjoy yourself a little.”  At this point, inexperienced combatants lay down their arms and complain that they are bored.

The Warrior listens intently to that silence and understands that somewhere something is happening.  He knows that devastating earthquakes arrive without warning.  He has walked through forests at night and knows that it is precisely when the animals are silent that danger is near.

While the others talk, the Warrior trains himself in the use of the sword and keeps his eye on the horizon.

2) What’s your positive interpretation of this passage?

3) Go to the blog and share your ideas.

3. The Personal Touch

The book proposal is with several publishers right now, with a kick-ass marketing plan, and I honestly think NOT getting a great offer could be the best thing, because I’m so tempted to self publish. But fingers crossed for a big offer, and we’ll see which way it goes.

I’m almost full time now creating ‘The Best Job On Earth’ project, and am in discussions with the Sierra Club, Rotary International, Tourism Queensland, and hopefully soon…Microsoft, Google and Apple. Sometimes it feels overwhelming and my gremlin says “How could you ever pull off something so big”, but response has been very positive, and I’m excited. (One non profit has already offered $5000 per month in PPC advertising!). You can get updates at www.davidsfacebook.com and http://twitter.com/solutionbox.

I’ve saved the best ’til last…..after a very bumpy year and significant doubts, I’ve manifested the most amazing partner I can imagine. I’ll write a partial list of qualities here (and you might want to get a cup of tea as it’s not short :-). She’s intelligent (smarter than me), has a huge heart, helps others (works with homeless families), loves to laugh, has a wicked mind (and enjoys messing with people’s heads), sensitive, emotionally aware, super-conscious, high-high-level communicator (tells on herself, reveals the hard stuff), beautiful, sexy, loves nature and dancing, supportive, generous, creative, understanding, and willing to feel uncomfortable feelings. She’s a natural yes to commitment and monogamy – and – she absolutely adores me. Ever get everything you ever wanted, and more? It’s confronting. And I accept! (the love-sick puppy I am, I made a video for her – you can see the public/sanitized version here

Love, David

Silence Before Battle is something people who have lived with or with those for whom the trauma/drama of violence, addictions, mental health dysfunction, etc. know intuitively. When things are silent or appear to be calm our periscopes are always poised at the horizon watching for signs of the next impending life storm. It is a gift of time to reflect on what one will allow to come at them, how one will respond (or not) and how best to protect themself, their loved ones and those expressing the trauma/drama. It is the time to become proactive and to reclaim your personal boundaries so that when the Battle begins your defense system is ready for your personal survival.

    Comment on Silence Before Battle:

The silence before “battle” is akin to the Sabbath step in our Creative Process – the process we use to create what we desire in our lives. It is the final step in our mental process when we are “at-one” (which is the meaning of Sabbath) with our creative efforts, and we rest – allowing the Universe to unfold what we need to bring our desire into fruition.

It doesn’t mean that we do nothing. It simply means that we do not try to force our creation into existence. We recognize the co-creative effort – alert to the synchronicities the Universe is sending our way. We keep our eyes on the horizon (our goal) expecting what we need. However, we are also discerning (another step in the process), keeping ourselves alert to things which could distract us from our goal.

    All the best, David,

    Hello David,

Very nice choice. It’s indeed the silence before the storm. The financial crisis will still have it’s effect on the world wide economy and the storm has yet to come. It is therefore of the utmost importance to be prepared and keep on developing skills and abilities to cope with it.
Luckily for you, it seems that you have strong leadership at hand that will guide you through the storm. I’m not so sure we will be as lucky in Europe, where leadership is scattered and only looking for self interest instead of developing common goals for the future.
As a business starter in training and education, it’s also discouraging to see that too many companies have stopped educating their staff and are just holding their breath for the time being. They will not be prepared when the storm really hits them.

    Congrats David,

On love in your life. I’m not able to view the video right now as I clicked over
to facebook and had problems signing on, I’ll try agian at another time.
I too would like to say that your message sent in this months newsletter was
extreemly timely. I was getting ready to turn in for the night (it’s 9:35 pacific
time) and thought I’d take one last peek at my emials and there you were.
For the last several weeks I have been working consistently on my website
and creating a theatrical character which I want to use in my coaching
business BUT, all of a sudden I’ve come to a slow crawl with my business
endeavors… I really don’t know what happened. What I can say is that God
works in mysterious ways, He uses people, places, and things to get His point
across and get our attention, redirect, encourage or motivate us depending on the need at that time. I consider your message to fall in the catagory of encouragement for me to keep moving on in my business cause there is such a GREAT NEED for what I’ve been given to offer my niche market, I recieve the call back to duty.

David, Here’s the thing -I watched the video x2 Get Paid for Who you Are, got inspired, thought about all the possibilities out there for me to create freedom as well as make a massive impact on the world, told my husband and family about it and then someone hit PAUSE. Of course it was ME and my own doing and so it is uncanny that you send me this article today. I need you to make me accountable. Can you do that? PLEASE 🙂
I’m also confused about where to start and my target market as I have two main interests -helping children with learning difficulties as well as creating change for women on many levels…physically, emotinally and spiritually. Do you think Spiritual wellness could work? Or finding your inner calm?

Hey, David! I am so happy for you! You sound like you are at an exciting time in your life. I have been following your work over the years and it is always inspiring and adds value to what I am doing. Thanks for all the love you put into everything you do. Don’t know if I will make it to your LA seminar this time. Things have been so crazy here in Mexico City the past week and that on top of all the financial worries left people in a really funny state. I feel my mission is a lot to help them balance out and continue to persue their aspirations in spite of this. I am about to finish my book and just thrilled! It is titled OTHERESTEEM! Great to hear about your partner. Love is so energizing and your video totally expresses that. So, till soon! Hugs from Mexico.
