    Th 11/13

No news yet as of today, but want to get my update in before heading out to the music conference for the weekend, where I expect I’ll be naturally moved to invite lots of highly qualified, exciting potential clients in my niche.

I’m pleased with the materials I’ve prepared, and looking forward to a really fun time and taking some big leaps forward in my business (and not much sleep!).

Tomorrow and Saturday will take some effort to update, because I’ll have to take my laptop out to the lobby to get to the internet (and get even less sleep to make time for it). Sunday I can update in the evening after I get home, provided I’m awake enough to remember! (And because I expect not to be, I’ve left the computer set up to make sure I do.)

    Everyone have a wonderful weekend!

11/12/08 I invited Karen through voice mail. She is in transition after selling her house here in desert. She’s not sure what she wants and where she wants to live. She’s been traveling for a few months. She has contacts all over the country.

11/12/08 I realize I’ve been so focused on getting commitments to do an intro, I have many left on the table not yet scheduled. My new focus: scheduled Diane for 6 PM Thursday sent emails with options to several folks & will follow up tomorrow.

I asked the very kind & attentive gentleman at Les Schwab as he told me my tire was unsafe due to a puncture in the wall and I need two new ones. I did it as an afterthought, didn’t follow the format, and he responded, “I think about it and call you if I’m interested.”

Wednesday: Today’s invite was to Vic, a local business owner. He may be having some financial struggles and hasn’t seemed as happy as usual. He said he’d think about it – didn’t really think coaching to be beneficial.

Today I invited Mirisue. She has a home based business with 2 kids and attempting to juggle everything. We talked about finding her a clear direction in her work. She will get back to me on doing a session next week.

I have 2 sessions left to do this week and 2 scheduled for next week. I am looking forward to what may come out of them!

I gave a sample session to Lisa today and at the end of it signed her up as a client @ $200/hour ($400/month) through February, and then $250/hour ($500/month) thereafter with a 3 month minimum. I also invited Daphne, who I had spoken to before, to do a sample session next Tuesday. And I contacted the Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center at the suggestion of my friend, Marty, in an effort to offer their co-founder and director, Phil, a sample session (who I haven’t been able to reach directly yet). And I offered Bill a sample session to his company’s HR person.

Thanks so much for sharing that “script” for your

After hearing parts of the call today, I decided to choose the people I invite more carefully and try to make it sound interesting. I e-mailed an invite to an entrepreneur from my women’s networking group, Adria, since I missed the meeting today (sick child). She is in my current niche of coaching entrepreneurs. I can make a case for at least a 100% return on the investment of coaching and am hoping that that is what makes someone feel comfortable enough to try it.

I seem to be getting yesses with my e-mail invites and it’s easier than calling. What do other’s experience

I just emailed this to a guy I know who has access to Robin,
asking him to forward if he felt appropriate, or to suggest
    other avenues.

    NOTE FOR ROBIN WILLIAMS

    Dear Robin,

My “day job” is: life coach.

I don’t coach individual clients anymore. (Instead I now train
70,000 coaches worldwide through my newsletters, websites
    and books)

    BUT…

for a few months I’ve been feeling a strong urge to offer you
coaching. I can’t fully explain it.

I know almost nothing about you – only vague rumors that you’ve
faced some huge personal challenges in the last couple of years.

(So have I man – this year was the toughest ever; I just healed
a strong bout of anxiety and depression. Now everything
    is flying.)

What I do know – is I hugely admire your work. And I feel
somehow that it’s right to reach out. You would make huge
strides in what’s important to you, and I’d get to contribute
to, and cyber-hang with someone I admire.

    Here’s what I suggest:

A 45 minute phone call about your life goals. If it feels good
and right for both of us, we’ll set up a regular structure to really
impact some goals that would put a big smile on your face.

    David Wood
    currently in Australia
    http://www.SolutionBox.com

P.S. I’m moving to Marin in December and have talked with
Mark about doing a few gigs (i dabble in theatresports
and standup on the side). I have this idea it might be fun to do
an exchange with you – some life coaching in exchange for some
stand-up coaching (man – I could use it, and I’d be honored to
be coached by you. Actually it would make my year.)

P.P.S. It would be 100% confidential. Without your permission,
my own partner wouldn’t even know we spoke.

Hi everyone, and especially those on the call with Marcia. Enjoyed that very much… reminds me, I haven’t had a chance to listen to Travis Greenlee’s call yet :-/

Today I invited Vanessa S. a friend I studied BodyTalk with years ago. We found each other on Facebook and it has been fun catching up. I would really like to work with her again as it’s been a long time and she has a large network that I believe she would refer me to.

Woke up with a great idea this morning… Renae B. who I coached for the second time yesterday is a member of an investment group I used to be in. She wants to improve her income and I’ve emailed her a proposal to coach her until she makes her first paid presentation to a group she’s submitting a proposal to. I will charge full fee but she won’t have to pay me until she receives her first fee. Haven’t heard back yet.

Great call everyone. I’m inspired by Marcia’s approach to Jack Canfield and becoming his coach.

I look forward to reading your challenges here, for those of you who accept my challenge to pick the person in the world you would MOST like to coach. And then offer coaching.

    A few tips:

    – who has access to them?
    – who do they turn to for advice and guidance?
    – why are you moved to coach them?
    – what in particular to you feel they would gain from the relationship?

    Enjoy

I invited a former colleague, Nancy K., at the California site I’ve mentioned that will shut down in about a year so her position will be eliminated. I suggested we think about what her ideal job would be. Waiting to hear back.

I had my first no to a trial session from Nancy R. who I thought would be the perfect transition client – she’s in the middle of a move to another city to be with her new hubby, so quitting her job and looking for a new one. She felt she had a hard time managing her time right now. I shared with her that interestingly, about 50 % of initial sessions are about managing time and work/life balance. I let her know that I appreciated her focus and to let me know if she was interested once she got to ‘the other side.’

    Two approaches today

One to an individual I’ve been concerned about for some time, have been trying to sit down with him for months. Believing he needed help to get to a new level. Sitting down with him, he broached the subject of needing help.

I proposed coaching and we will begin in the next two weeks.

Second invitation was to the wife of someone I’m giving a trial session to this evening. As he described his wife she sounded like the kind of client I love. So I sent her an invitation by email to a trial session immediately after his.
    We’ll see

I had a session with Meiread today, who is in the process of changing her life direction,
and really wanted some clarity. She is not in a state financially to afford coaching at the moment but was able to benefit from our time together and I gave her some tips to use on her own.
Then did a session with Sue, a former client of mine, who felt she was a bit off track again. She said it was a great reminder of how powerful coaching is and that she will go for some tune-up sessions to stay in the flow.
Then received an email from Deirdre, who has committed to signing up for 6 months to be supported in her career transition! As she’s in a tight space financially, she asked if I would do it for 1200 euro, instead of 1500, and I agreed as I feel it will be a lot of fun to work with her:-) She’s going to pay me in US dollars.
And Carla’s husband called me today, wanting the same sessions she had yesterday with me, so he is coming in on Saturday for all 4 in one!
Did my first session with Ann and that was great!
In between all of this I also had to visit the dentist.
As I’m completely booked up for the rest of the month I’m not offering any more sessions but will invite people for intro session of a TAT evening I’m teaching to get the training weekend booked up the end of the month.
Tomorrow I have 2 intro sessions, Friday another 3, Saturday 2, Sunday 2,, Monday 1, next week Tuesday 1, Wednesday 1, Thursday 1, and on our last day of 30 days 1 more.
That, along with my regular clients and keeping up with all the follow up from this, is keeping me plenty busy:-)

Thank you David, for creating the opportunity to really stretch myself!
And thank you everyone here for playing along!

By the end of the month I’ll tally up how many sessions I did and how much money has been paid. Different currencies and all:-)

    blessings,

    Tina

Today I invited Sid, he is my brother in law, and i truly want to support him on his journey. He asccepted the offer, it is pro bono, with the idea that he would be a great testimonial, and a good referrer of business. I am doing three months with him to support him on is journey, feels really good. I also had a fabulous session today. I feel pretty good right now.

Today, I invited two folks by way of email: Mari, my ex-sister-in-law. We found each other on facebook after years of not having been in contact.

Plus I asked a former student of mine, of whom I still had a paper I was trying to return, and when I googled her, I found her on Facebook also. when she wrote back, I told her I’m doing this now and asked if she’d like a session.

Haven’t heard back from either one.

Also stuck some cards on bulletin boards in the local natural grocery, plus in an upscale grocery, and also in a regular grocery store with a bulletin board…

I thought it would be fun to reconnect with her as I’m thinking about hosting a reunion to get us all together again before Christmas. I think Inanna would also make a great referrer.

Tuesday: I have not been able to follow up with my previous contacts the past couple of days, but will do a lot of that after Thursday. I wasn’t sure I could even invite someone today, but I made myself take a break from my other work and make three calls (I would have just made one to be honest, but one voice mail was full and the other didn’t feel right to leave an invite) – so my third call was answered by a man, Jim that I meet at a chamber event a month or so ago. We had chatted briefly and he was in a new network marketing company, so I thought he might be a good candidate… but he declined.

I called Vivian today and left her a message. I invited her because I know she has alot of contacts, and likes to run and take care of herself. Las time I talked with her, I found out that her Mother has passed away with cancer, and she had moved in with her Dad. I had gone to her parents’ 50th anniversary celebration. I haven’t talked to her in a month, and thought it would be good to invite her to an exploratory session.

Today was an amazing day. I got unstuck with writing. I worked on both books: How to Lose Weight and Still Eat Chocolate and Rising Out of the Darkness: Stories, Processes, and Prayers to Help You Live. I love this challenge to invite 1 person a day. I applied the same concept to my writing. I will write 2 pages a day in the Chocolate book, and 1 story a day in Rising Out of the Darkness. I did it. It sure feels good.

Then I was in the Veterans Day Parade in Palm Spring, Ca. I was apprehensive waiting for the parade to begin. We were toward the end, Number 44. I was marching with the Veterans for Peace. I served in the U.S. Army in the 1980s. I want peace and our troops to come home. As we began walking, I held up my hands, making the peace sign with my fingers, repeating the word, “Peace”. People cheered, some stood up, a few stood at attention and saluted us, others smiled, nodded their heads “yes”, and rose their hands up giving the peace sign while repeating “peace”. One man ran into the street gave me a high five and then hugged me. I was moved to tears numerous times throughout the parade.

I asked my friend Maureen today if she wanted a session. She is in retirement and she was approachable. She said that she’ll think about it. I think it could be good for her if she opens herself to it.

    Day 20!

Thanks, Beth, for your support. I crossed over onto another “limb” today and invited J.M., someone I’d connected with through LinkedIn. We had talked about change management issues, and I have some background in that. Waiting to hear his response.

Have been trying to finalize sessions with a lot of the people who’ve said yes but our schedules are challenging.

Invitations offered, 20; accepted, 18; sessions conducted, 2.

I invited a friend and former business colleague to a trial session as she is in one of my niches – leaders in new roles who to accelerate the learning curve by leveraging their strengths.

I had 5 sessions today and also worked further on a proprosal linking Competency Modeling with coaching so a little spent. The banking VP wants me to send my coaching agreement to share with her boss. We would use this VP, Susan as a pilot to show measurable results for the entrepreneur coaching project. With corporations, it’s a bit of a process but if it works out, it will be worth it.

Took a walk through a park today, with the goal of inspiring three people, and engaging three people in a sample session. It was beautiful outside, the first snowfall of the year, and 0 degrees celcius. I high fived a guy running through the park, and told a few people how smart they were to be in the park today. Then I found a lady taking a photograph under a tree. The day was ery speial for her, and I shared my appreciation for her sharing with me the emotion of the day. I also told her she was inspiring, and offered her a sample session. Her name is Angela

Today I had my monthly group coaching meeting. I had three guests attend who are possible clients. I will “claim” Peter for today. I invited Peter because he was referred to me by a current client. Peter seems excited and ready to become a client. He & I are both traveling the rest of this week, so will plan to regroup in a week or so to see if we can “close the deal”.

I had a great session with Carla and she actually ended up having a series of sessions, of different techniques, all today and paid me 200 euro:-)
Received 260 pounds for the sessions I’ll be doing with Ann, starting tomorrow.
I sent out an invite to Nicky, who has a good size spiritual community going here, and she organises events and promotes all kinds of people, so I thought I could partner with her in some areas, as we have similar interests, yet each have a unique way of doing our work.
Tomorrow I have 4 intro sessions!
It seems to be getting busier…

Hello, all! Today I invited Jerry O. (in person, no less!) and he said yes. He is committed to helping me make connections, and I suggested that the best way to do that was to experience what I do. He is in between jobs and I believe I can help him crystallize the vision of what he wants so it comes to him faster.

I also invited Pam L. for a consultation on my Lunch N Learn series to see if it is a fit for her office (also a face-to-face invite: breakthrough!!). She is a realtor, and believes that what I have to offer might be just what they need!

I ran into Sue S. at an eWomen Network meeting today, and she came over and told me that she is nominating me for an SBA award for home based businesses – how cool is that!? When I asked her about my invitation I had sent her about a complimentary coaching session, she said she hadn’t opened my email yet, but YES she’s interested! We’ll be putting a date on the calendar this week.

This is getting easier – in thinking about it every day, and in actually doing it! Thanks, David, for this great program.

Enjoying the trial sessions with prospective clients. Today’s fellow will not likely use me personally (in final years before retirement, having a ball) but he will recommend me to others. Glad I offered him a sample.

Today’s approach was to an assistant pastor in a church whose senior just stepped down. Know he is struggling. Know he can use coaching. Will be surprised if he doesn’t bite.

Shocked to get an email yesterday from a very high D type individual who I approached last week about coaching. I’d been intimidated about approaching him but know I can help. The 30 day challenge was key to getting me to make the approach. Thankyou.

    Tu 11/11:

Got three yes’s yesterday and three no’s today. I got two checks yesterday for $250 and $1075 (yay!), and K from Friday gave me a verbal yes on hiring me – we’ll confirm details tomorrow. I also talked with both K and M about my part in the weekend workshops they’re planning, for May and June. Both very exciting, potentially lucrative opportunities in fun places.

Today, the other K from Friday e-mailed to say no, she won’t be hiring me right now, M from the block party canceled his intro call for next week, and D from Saturday’s music party decided she doesn’t need me right now, but might have use for me for a particular project she may take on in the future.

Back to conference prep – leaving Thursday morning, want to go early and easy, with plenty of sleep between now and then.

I got an e-mail from my high school friend, Karen, today who is a therapist and who I haven’t seen in over a year. I e-mailed her back, told her how I was redirecting my coaching practice on a particular green niche, asked her if she knew anyone in this niche and suggested I give her a sample session so she could feel how coaching differs from therapy and refer people authentically to me if she comes across an appropriate candidate.

Spoke to an ex-colleague today who started telling me how overwhelmed she is with all the ideas she’s got to expand her business. Saw a Business Enterprise person who didn’t do the trick – got lots of advice on which books to read but nothing else so still felt really overwhelmed. Talked to her about the business coaching I do and offered a comp session – booked in for Friday afternoon – Karen M.

Monday: Today’s invite was by email – I’ve been mainly making phone calls or inviting in person, but I was never alone today – until after 10pm (a little late to make calls), so I sent two invites by email to Amber and Jenny.

Amber works in office administration and is finally just about recovered from a serious case of Lyme disease (over 2 years recovery!).

Jenny is a college senior and probably going right to grad school. I think she’d be great to work with as she makes choices and transitions in her life.

Email went out to Charles, he said his wife was taking a coaching course, and he seemed like a guy with integrity. I offered a sample session to show him what his wife was going through, or a version of what she was going through. He said he has already had a couple of sessions. Glad I approached him though, Simon is scheduled for a sample next week, and Nathan called me to get my addressfor his cheques. overall a pretty good day.

Beth, thanks so much for clarifying about the calls, and I apologize for jumping to the wrong conclusion.

After getting discouraged today about “who am I going to ask if they want a sample session?” I reset the intention that it was just going to be obvious and easy who this person was going to be rather than a struggle, and then lo and behold, someone I had talked to back in July about coaching (Lisa) e-mailed me this evening so I offered her a sample session. (I should have offered her one the first time back in July!)

    Thanks, Beth, for your encouragement.

Both coaching sessions went very well. Amazing really. Looks like i’m good at this ๐Ÿ˜‰ Colleen was already a lot happier than last week and is really excited about the changes she’s making. The way she’s going at it, she’ll be all done by the end of the month.

And the session with Shirley went really well too. I’m so happy and excited. This is really cool!

Also, I bumped into an old mentee of mine, Carri, who I used to coach (for pay!) through a lengthy professional challenge (she said I saved her butt!) before I realized that that was what it was. She agreed to an exploratory session ๐Ÿ˜‰ And a testimonial too.

And about the buddy: No, I haven’t found a new one yet. Maybe during the next call, unless someone who reads this is interested and volunteers…

Wellll, two of the trial sessions I had schedule for this evening had to postpone until next week. Interesting enough, another person, Jill, who had said yes to a free trial was home from work today so we spontaneously did it.

She wants me to coach her and her to-be business partner together so they are on the same page and get their ‘butts in gear.” I agreed that I’d split the fee between them. Has anyone coached two people at one time? Seems to be it would like mini-group coaching. We’ll see what her partner says but the fee would be $360 for a 4 month agreement.

So I called Sonya and offered her a trial session on her voice mail – waiting to hear. If she is not interested in this arrangement, then Jill and I are going to work out a barter – coaching in exchange for one gourmet meal for 4 a week. That way I can eat well and entertain while focusing on building the coaching practice. Works for me.

Today I invited Nadine for a session on the 26th November. I am going to keep this going as I’m pretty much booked up for the rest of the challenge and still have people calling and emailing for more.
She is looking for ways to let go of her fears of stepping into her own business fulltime.
I also invited Eva again, who will be a great connection to offer my trainings in her company. She’s getting back to me with some dates and is very keen.
Ans called me today, referred by my first client who signed up in this challenge, and wants to start the coaching program I offer next week! At 300 euro per month.
I had a session with Svetlova this evening and she works for a big international company and was delighted by our time together and ready to refer people to me.
We had such a wonderful connection that I completely forgot to ask her if she was interested in hearing about my coaching structure! I emailed her to let her know I do offer ongoing sessions and if she’d like more info then I’d be delighted to let her know about it.
well, I guess that was heartfelt time:-)
Tomorrow I have a session with carla.

And one of my clients has referred 2 more clients for 6 month programs and is actually gifting them.

A good night’s sleep does wonders:-)

I suggested that working w/ her own coach would help her see the distinction between coaching and therapy and help her see if it is an avenue she wants to pursue. It’s an exciting opportunity in an interesting place, with a vibrant arts community. As a way of getting to know each other’s work, I offered her an intro call for next Tuesday, and she accepted.
