A bit late, but at least I’m posting before going to sleep.

Asked Chris today because she is open to personal growth and I thought I might be able to help with either personal or business goals. She’s worked with a coach before and was open to it. Told me to call for the exploratory session later this week and schedule it for the week after.

I’ll have my first “real” coacfhing session tomorrow (two actually). This makes me a bit nervous. I also realize I pretty much goofed on the proper follow-up. I hope the introductory fee makes my new clients a bit more forgiving than they might normally be.

YEOW!! Almost forgot to post today. I was completely out of the coaching loop today. Not thinking about clients at all. This 30 day exercise is making me think about how I can get distracted by the process and forget what I’m actually trying to accomplish here. Since it’s so last minute, I’m emailing a woman, Stacey, that I met at an event earlier this week. I’m inviting her because she is in banking and I would like to have a banking client as part of my executive coaching group.

I invited Odema. In our conversation about what I do, she expressed interest in having me prepare something for her work; either one time or a series of classes. I will speak with her this week to set up a time to research further. I feel this is really building steam!

Day 18 – Today I invited F.D., a woman I used to work with. She’s been working freelance for many years but lately has been having trouble finding work in her niche. She agreed to a session. Also heard back from a previous invite with a yes.

I’m glad I started an Excel spreadsheet to track all this when the challenge began… otherwise I can see that I would have trouble remember who to follow up with, etc.

Invitations offered, 18; accepted, 17; sessions conducted, 2.

Day 18: Just did a session for Dani M. She is wanting to spend less time in her business and more time writing her book. Dani had made it clear before our session that she couldn’t commit to anything ongoing as she’s on a tight budget, and I was happy with that as I got to use a process I learnt in my NLP training and it went really well. We finished the session in 30min with the process, when with a regular coaching session it would have taken an hour. I’m very happy to be getting the practise πŸ™‚

Today I sent an email invitation to Kym, who subscribed to my free e-course. I have yet to hear back.

Day 17: I followed up with a couple people that I’ve been trying to schedule after they said yes, left 3 messages.

Today’s invite went to my cousin, Lisa. She is a full-time college student and just left a stressful volunteer job (I know, volunteer jobs shouldn’t be stressful!). She said yes and we had a mini-session today! I may offer to coach her at a reduced fee or for a small trade and ask for referrals and testimonial.

Hello everyone. Linda, I love your idea of putting an invite out Facebook. The whole social networking thing is taking off. Let us know how that turns out.

I called a friend Jill who wants to transition into working for someone else into her own catering business. She said YES to the invite and I even talked to her about a barter situation – catering in exchange for my coaching. She also said she has a friend who is not happy in her job and since career transition is my specialty, it feels right. Love it when that happens.

This week I have 8 Trial Sessions to do plus my client load and two networking appointments for some potential partnering (a company that does coaching and career transtition for my former corporation.)

Here’s a question for you all regarding getting an answer to a coaching structure after the trial session. My seasoned coach has encouraged me to go for either a yes or no answer (in a professional, grounded way.) After handling objections (like David does so well) if they still want to ‘think about it’ say, “OK I’m going to assume that’s a no. It’s been my experience that it just doesn’t happen when people go away to figure out whether they ‘can’ do it or not. I hope you got something from this. Now who do you know that might be interested in the benefits of coaching?”

    What do you think?

I invited Cecelia H. by e-mail tonight. I don’t usually work on Sundays and just went through some e-mails. What’s good about Cecelia is that she is in the social work field so she may be intrigued and she may be a good person to refer to me. She’s also a bit tough to deal with at times and I want to become fearless in my coaching. I haven’t heard back yet.

Today’s invitation goes to Peggy Collins, an author I interviewed on my radio program “Power Tools for Life” before the station sold and the programming changed. She is a remarkable woman who has become a friend and who is taking her speaking business to the next level. I’d love to see how I can help!

Update: Lisa S. (invited yesterday) declined my invitation but has 2 people she wants to refer to me. Yay!!

Invited an obese man from church. My niche is working with people who want to, and/or need to lose weight due to health reasons. I invited him to a life coaching session. He agreed and will call tomorrow to set up appt.

I am inspired to offer group coaching for weight loss. I am completing my e-book, coming out in January, How to Lose Weight and Still Eat Chocolate. I want to include the book, the weekly group coaching sessions, and have a blog much like this one. Been thiniking about this for a long time. I’m really excited about how it is all coming together since I started the 30 day challenge. Thanks David and all who are a part of this 30-day challenge.

Hi everyone, I was at a friend’s house yesterday and posted from there, but must have posted on the wrong blog as I don’t see it here. Doh! Anyhow, yesterday (Day 17) I invited a fellow NLP course participant to an NLP session, or just to talk. She’s lost a nephew to suicide and is giving a eulogy at the funeral today. More than likely I won’t hear from her for a few days and that’s ok.

Todays (Nov.9th) invitation was sent to my brother Gustav. Though I do recommend coaching to just about everyone I usually prefer not to coach my immediate family myself. However my brother is facing two specific challenges at the moment, one professionally where he feels the need to change workplace, and the other privately with regard to a close relationship. I know coaching could be of great help and in these particular cases our familyties should be a bonus rather than a hinderens.
Branka, whom I sent an invitation to on october 28th replied that even though she would like to take me up on my offer she would prefer to do so after the holidays due to a full schedule. I will follow up to see if there is something in the current hectic schedule I can assist with and if not see if we can book something for after the holidays.

    Su 11/9:

Project weekend continues, prepping for the conference Thursday. Much to do, still planning to get the materials all done *today*, so I can focus on packing and 30-day challenge the next three days.

I actually made an invitation yesterday (that weekend thing!). I went to a monthly music party at night, where the usual attendees include some very talented musicians, but mostly not ones who are interested in or serious about making a living from it. But last night there were some new folks, including a couple who I eventually learned are full-time professional musicians. At 1am or so, I talked with D, the wife, and gave her my card, which of course prompted her to say, “I could use that”. So I offered her a consultation, and arranged to call her Monday to set it up.

    Today: 3 sessions delivered

I am finding it tougher to come up with people to invite now… am having to dig deeper into my rolodex. Am realizing that in the past couple of months I’ve fallen behind on networking opportunities. Need to get out there sometime in the next week or so and find a good event to attend.

I called Carol and she said that at the moment she’s very happy with what’s going on in her life and he doesn’t want to make any changes. Which means, it was a No.

But that’s okay. I’m glad for her, and I asked her to pass on the word if she can think of someone who might benefit, and she said she would.

BTW, it seems I have lost my coaching buddy (she dropped out). Would someone out there like to be buddies with me??? I’d be especially interested in partnering up with someone who’s worked with some businesses since I’d like to learn more about how to do that.

    Thanks.

    Dear Beth & David-
Thank you for responding to my earlier post on last Monday’s call with Travis Greenlee. I like the both/and mentality that was suggested.

The other day, David, you put a note out about instituting a fee for future calls. I responded to this on the Solutionbox.com/comment page but have not heard back anything. Since posting my response, I wonder whether perhaps I misunderstood the e-mail you sent to us. Perhaps the fee is for calls that are above and beyond the 4 free calls that we contracted to get as part of this 30 day challenge. Is that correct? If so, I do not have a problem with that and think that is fair. If, on the other hand, it is going back on what we contracted for, that is not fair to everyone in this group. Please clarify. And if I misunderstood, I offer my humble apologies. But if you intended the fee to apply to the Marcia Wieder and Andrea Lee calls, I would strongly advise you to reconsider. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Sa 11/8:

This is a project weekend. I have a big conference next weekend (Thurs-Sun) that I go to every year, which is a lot of fun and a great place for me to schedule intro calls and sign people up for my mailing list. Typically, I’ve usually ended up preparing at the last minute, and staying up way too late the night before because of it – not a great thing before a three-night music conference where staying up half the night is the rule, and a lot of the best business gets done at 2 or 3am in someone’s hotel room!

So this year, I’m planning to get all my materials prepped by tomorrow at 6pm.

I’m working through my timeline using “Fearsome Focus” (from Dave Lakhani’s wonderful book “The Power of an Hour”) – 45 minutes completely focused on the project at hand with no interruptions, followed by 15 minutes (or preceded, as I’m doing this hour) of whatever else needs taking care of – taking a break, answering phone calls and e-mails, working through my “to-do” list, etc.

So I’m also planning to get my prospect prep info out to all my fellow 30DC-ers who requested it, today during one of those 15-minutes-es.

    Today: 3 sessions delivered
    Total invitations so far: 26
    Sessions scheduled: 9 / Sessions delivered: 7

One thing the Challenge is doing for me is helping me get a handle on the kind of people I enjoy working with.

Just approached one of the most exciting people I know, the kind of person who is ‘out there’ doing stuff other people only dream about, but may be having trouble keeping it together in other areas of her life.

Don’t know if she will give it a try but do know that approaching her and people like her is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.

    Hi,
Would anyone like a Buddy ?

I am a recently certified Coach, of English nationality but I live in South West France.

Coaching is just beginning to develop in France so its quite tough getting people to sign up to something that is relatively strange to them, and id like to share some support with other Coaches who have been there or are there now.

Im particularly finding it difficult to identify my niche, as my unique selling point is that I am propbably the only English Coach around here. I would like to build on that strength but lack in creativity as to how to go about it.
I am presently coaching students in a school , but there is always very limited funding for this. My house is presently being built so group coaching is out for the moment, even individual coaching is difficult as i have nowhere to coach them and usually end up going to their place which is not ideal.

I also coach middle aged women to resolve their various difficulties but id like to work more with the English speaking community here ( expatriates) and /or create a really unique product like coaching French people to perfect their English communication skills, BUT I JUST CANT SEEM TO GET MY BACKSIDE INTO GEAR TO GET ANY OF THIS OFF THE GROUND. IT ALL SEEMS SO MUDDLED AND UNDEFINED!!

I have a lot to share with you so I look forward to hearing from you all, either through this site or my own email:

I gave her my info but didn’t think of taking hers, so if she calls me that’ll be great. If not, she probably wouldn’t have converted anyway…

I also asked another acquantaince (fellow energy healer), Margaret, and she said no. She doesn’t have time, she said.

I was trying to do a tally, but I can’t tell exactly how many poeople I asked because some of them were in groups, and then there wre the emails.

Haven’t had a single call from the ad in the local freebie paper.

But I’ve got 3 clients now, and a fourth one possibly if she can sort out her money situation. Two of my clients are paying ones ($100/month each) and the third one is an exchange (since she charges $65 for a massage, that’s actually $130 of value!). Number 4 will be paying too if she comes through.

I must say I’m pretty happy and a bit astonished actually, and very hopeful for the next few days. Definitely glad I went for this challenge! This would have never happened otherwise.

Heard today about someone who had told a friend he was deeply appreciative of some advice I had given him three years.

Took the opportunity today to give him some more. Approached him today by email about coaching. We’ll see.

Day 16: Heard back from a previous invitation with a yes, so we scheduled but it’ s not for another week. Also today invited T.K., a university professor I’ve worked with who expressed interest about my coaching business. Waiting to hear back on her schedule.

Also emailed a local business publication about a public speaking gig for their annual women’s conference. Figure I have nothing to lose by offering my services!

Invitations offered, 16; accepted, 14; sessions conducted, 2.

Invited Peter today, he has been a toastmaster for 35 years, amazing guy, and I told him I know that he cares about people, and that this may be a way for him to help people that he cares about in his life. I also signed Nathan up. I did a sample session with him today, and he is deciding between 3 or 4 sessions a month, and a 3 or 6 month commitment. He’s an amazing guy in what I am kind of hoping will be my niche. professional athletes. This feels good, I almost feel like making this a 90 day challenge for myself. I want a full practice, and I am seeng that it is only me who limits me. Thanks for breaking the glass ceiling on my life David.

Tonight I offered coaching to a 69 year old (I was surprised she was that old!), retired history teacher I know through going on her bike club group rides. She assured me there was no way she needed a coach or would ever consider paying me. But she said she’d do a session with me if I wanted the practice, which I did! She was a kick to try to coach. We did end up determining a real goal: come to terms with her not flying for some time since she was so upset with the airlines’ undependability and her strong desire to not become “a old, timid wooze!” At the end of a rich session she thanked me and said she WAS going to sign up for that history tour to Ireland! I had asked for referrals. Maybe I’ll get some. \”/

I spent most of today redoing my coaching contract so I could get it off to my new client. I’m so glad that’s done!

    Invites accepted – 15
    Sessions delivered – 6

4 paying clients and we are only 1/2 over, that’s great Khafayah.

A great idea, Mary. With each of you getting a session you will know what you are referring.

Dr. Lorrie, we are having another Alex call the first week in December. So keep a look out for it.

I’ll check that out for you Suzanna.

Suzanne, congratulations on your first full paying client!

1/2 way done – do keep it up!

Day 16: Emailed Margaret P. who filled in my research survey, saying she would consider a coaching session to relieve stress.

I don’t have much energy this morning, after a late night and early start, and very hot weather. Tonight I’m rostered on at the cinema to work till midnight so I’m kinda taking things easy today.

I forgot to mention that K from my first session today also offered a couple of possible business opportunities, including a weekend retreat, which I’ve been looking for opportunities to do. We’re talking Monday, right after I talk with the other person I’ve been corresponding with who’s offering similar opportunities.

Irene – feel free to contact me, if you like. Click my name for contact info. Despite my lukewarm contest stats so far, I usually do really well at enrolling clients, and have been coaching full-time for 8 years, so I’ve learned a thing or two about what works and how to speak effectively about it.

    F 11/7:

Delivered 3 intro calls today. All 3 very inspired by what their lives could be if they worked with me, all 3 clear they want it, all 3 getting back to me next week about the money (what’s *up* with that?!).

S from day 1 got back to me with a no, or at least a “no, not now” – my first. She’s found a coach willing to do a trade of services with her. If it doesn’t work out she’ll call me, and she’s working on several referrals for me.

    Today: 3 sessions delivered
    Total invitations so far: 26
    Sessions scheduled: 9 / Sessions delivered: 7
    New clients: 1 / Pending: 5 / Money collected: $250

I asked my sister Claudia if she wanted a session and she said no for now. She is stuck in developing her business and doesn’t want to think about it. My nephew has had major health issues (chronic migraines) and she is very stressed. When and if she does work with me, I’d love to show her how easy it is to get unstuck and move your business forward.

Does anybody want to give me a session? I am going in too many work directions and am feeling scattered. If you have skills in enrolling clients, I’d love to get more comfortable with this so that I can market for fewer hours and still get good results.

Todays (Nov 7th) invitation went to Kristina L. She is a beauty therapist and sole owner. She currently has another job also to earn enough income but would like to support herself fully from her beauty therapist occupation and this is what I hope to get the chance to work with her on.
I have scheduled an intro session with Ulrica (my invitation from Nov 3rd).
I have also had a positive respons from Birgitta (my invitation from Nov.5th) so I am now trying to reach her by phone to set a date and time for an intro session.
On Monday I hope to be able to be back to work a full day. Looking forward to getting back on track by doing phone follow up to all my e-mail invitations.
    Have a good weekend everyone.

Rebecca A is a friend of Randall (yesterday’s invite) and we were part of a networking team for a while. I invited her because I like her and we havent’ connected in a long time. Plus, she is always really, really busy and helping her learn to reduce her stress would make me happy! I’ll keep you posted…

Hey, guess what? This inviting thing is getting easier! I know that when I am not attached to the results, they have the freedom to appreciate being asked, whether they say yes or no!

    Have a great weekend, all!

Yesterday, I invited Emma. We have a meeting scheduled for this afternoon. She was referred to me by another coach who scheduled the appointment for me today and will meet with Emma and me to make the introduction.
I am interested in Emma because her background is similar to mine and my friend thought she would be a better fit w/ me than with him.

Beth, Heard that the Alex call was great. Any way we can get it to those of us who didn’t know about it and missed it?

Jan, I agree to get a (Yes or No, not now). It felt so much better. I wasn’t wasting energy thinking about them, calling them, etc. Jack, who I insisted he get off the fence either way, has kept coming to mind, so I am going to call him tomorrow to see how’s he’s doing. It does feel different. This is better for me mentally.

    Joshua, Suzanne, Susanna, and everyone…

    encouraging results!

And for those of you who might be beating yourself up (you know who you are), know that success is measured by the number of times you reach out.

This program is about making those invitations. And learning what you learn along the way.

If everyone is saying no, you keep tweaking, keep tweaking, keep inviting….

    and keep giving πŸ˜‰

    Love,

    David

Day 15: Emailed Sue. H, another survey participant. Sue comments in her survey that she would consider using a life coach to relieve stress but that it might be too costly. Waiting on her reply.

Did my 5th intro session today with Bouchra S. She is wanting to create an income from property investment strategies learnt through our women’s investment mentoring program. The call went very well and she wants to continue. She’s offered an exchange deal and I’ll have one session to see if it works for me.

Day 15: Started working with DP today on weight loss issues. I love when there’s great synergy with a client. Not like work at all. Was paid $100

Sent an e-mail invite to LM who I’d met at a training program a while back. So far, not a lot of progress with the messages left by phone or e-mail. I need to allocate some time to call and follow up.

Running out of hours in the day. πŸ™‚

FYI – the last day I got an e-mail was day 8. I’m checking my spam folder but nothing’s there either. Help?

Day 15, 16, 17 – Don’t know how this works when you’re going camping with no internet or phone access for the weekend so I’ve done my 3 days work today and hope that counts! Sent 6 emails to ex-recruitment colleagues who work in financial services and I know are doing it tough right now – Anna W, Bev S, Matt H, Nicole O, Lyndsay S and Stuart S – suggesting a comp session for each of them covering some of the relationship buidling, networking and objection handling skills I cover in my workshops – all in a complimentary coaching session.

Day 14: Today’s invite went to Mike, a friend of my brother’s and former business partner – the three of us ran a miniature golf course about 6-7 years ago. I hadn’t talked to him in a while, but was going through my address books looking for people to invite.

He said yes, but wanted to wait until after hunting season, I mentioned that it’d be just 30 minutes, but he said his head just isn’t in it now. πŸ™‚ so I’ll follow up later.

Yahoo!!!! I just signed up my third new client since beginning our 30DC with David – my first ever at my full price of $250!!!!!!! Yahoo!!!! Oh HUGE THANKS!!! And it’s SO FUN!!!

I do think I’ll have my coach do a “circle of excellence” exercise with me because I have the best PMA!!! I’m sure a time or two will come when I feel nothing is working, etc. And I will be glad to have a full mind/body/heart connect to this amazing experience. On the other hand, I’m so glad for our brain workings – 21 days to a new habit. Go Brains Go!!!

I left a voicemail message for D, challenging her to accept my offer. I talked to P.W., an acquaintance in high school who I saw once 3 years ago at a reunion. She said, yes we professionals do need to network. She said she’ll call me this weekend. She’s a realtor in Spokane and financially tight. I told her I’d love to work with her and we could work something out.

My husband was listening in the background and suggested that I sweeten the offer – which is true for what I offer. Not just $250 for three 1/2 hour sessions a month, but $250 for a package of 3 1/2 hour phone calls, home/field work assignments, short check in phone calls during the week as well as email and support. Good advice.

I’m excited to listen to Monday night’s phone call now, as I was unable to be on it then. Thanks! suzanne@streamtree.com

Today I invited Simon, and Julie. They are both in Toastmasters with me. I also did a sample session with Mike and aurora who I had invited earlier. I believe Mike may be a good contact for me, he has good connections. I know he sees value in looking inward, and has lots of success in his life already. I also have a sample session tomorrow with Nathan, I think it is likely that he will sign up. I wonder who will get the invite tomorrow?
