Day 9: I invited Carla, she is a PartyLite Consultant that I’ve bought candles from in the past – she is very interested, but asked me to call her back in 2 weeks to schedule a session. So, it’s a good response that I have to follow up with.

I have my first regular session with Karen tomorrow! Quite a while ago, I learned from David (thank you) how to create great coaching agreements. I haven’t used mine in quite a while, so I have to pull it out and get prepared. 🙂

More success! I emailed back and fourth and scheduled Colleen for Monday evening and Teresa for Tuesday. Got a yet another Yes from Stephanie and am now in the process of scheduling her.

Oh, and I finally have an actual “date” with Nancy — next Friday.

Got to try the walk-into-a-store gig sometime 😉

Meanwhile, I put an ad into the local free paper, looking for more people for
FREE Introductory sessions. Looking forward to finding out how THAT will work.

    Happy Halloweeeeen!

Day 9: Had a great initial conversation with Carolyn (my buddy) this morning. Wonderful to have a ‘partner in crime.’ 🙂

Today I followed up with W & DP, a couple that I did an exploratory session with on Monday. He is not interested at this time but she’s agreed to a few coaching sessions over the next few weeks and would love to do more but financially couldn’t commit to more than that at this time. She’s very interested in focusing on her weight and frustration issues and said she’s already had some shifts from the little bit that we did in the exploratory session! First session scheduled for 11/6. 🙂

Met with AW, a past client who had agreed to an exploratory session. She is in the midst of many issues and projects coming to completion. She isn’t able to afford coaching at this time but we were able to see where she is able to take some steps on her own to support herself through the transition. She looks forward to working with me again in the future and referring others.

I also invited KP, a local PR consultant to an exploratory session to look at improving her effectiveness in launching a new directive that she has been frustrated with. She’s going to check her schedule for next week and get back with me.

    Happy Halloween Everyone! 🙂

Approached young man I’ve known for some time languishing in dead end jobs. Asks if he’d like a sample of coaching. He jumped at it. Trial session Wednesday at 5.

    Happy Halloween, everyone! Boo!

I did my second session this afternoon, with B from Friday night. He hired me at $250/mo for >= 6 months. Both the guys I did sessions with today were (aside from money issues) pretty close to ideal clients – great energy, highly motivated achievers, nice connection, asked great questions and gave deep thoughtful answers, and both absolutely clear that unless they’re fully engaged in their creative passions they’re not doing what they were put here to do. And since that’s what *I’m* here to do, we’re a perfect match!

Less success at the crafts fair. I’m not clear exactly what it’s about, but I haven’t done terribly well at these kinds of events, and enrolling craftspeople and visual artists in general. I’m terrific with musicians, and with filmmakers, writers, dancers, and others.

One thing that became clear is that I need to develop some language for speaking about my new program. I was a lot less adept at answering the “what can you do for me?” questions than I’ve been in the past, and that’s just because my message has evolved and I haven’t honed how to speak about it like I have with previous ones. A little practice before going would have helped … or even reading my own gift certificate before inviting, since I said it pretty well there!

That said, I did invite at least 5 (6?), and left some gift certificates with one old and one new friend, who were both willing to share with other artists over the rest of the weekend and at other shows. Got 3 “maybe’s” – two are going to check out my materials (R) or think about it (A), and one (M) knows she needs a coach but is clear she can’t afford me, but said she’d call me next week.

I’ve also started asking for referrals in my intro calls, and that seems to be generating some potential results – too early to tell.

Total invitations so far: 19 (20?)
    Sessions scheduled: 3 / Sessions delivered: 3
    New clients: 1 / Pending: 2
    Money collected: $250

Today I sent an invitation to Cindy F. She feels she is in a dead end job and ready for a change. I also talked with one of my current clients today. She is forwarding my email to a bunch of her friends and I am beginning to get responses from them. Lesson… don’t forget about referrals!!!

I’ve had lots of “yesses” but all the sessions I have scheduled don’t start for a while, and I’m impatient to get going with these new folks! 🙂

Day 8: Great day! I did a session with Lori who has just recently lost her job to downsizing. She felt energized afterwards which gives me a great feeling to be able to help someone whether I’m being paid or not. There is a possibility of contracting with Lori but she needs to look at finances. We’re going to talk next Friday.

I followed up with Doris who wants a session but is really slammed at work right now. I asked her how she felt about her current schedule and she said she was really frustrated. I said that giving up 30-40 minutes now might help her find more time and that intrigued her. She wants to continue looking at the possibility.

Beth Dargis, thank you for being there for us: for your encouragement, thoughtful questions and patience responding to ours. I appreciate it.

Today I invited an aquaintance from a volunteer organization. Knowing they struggle financially and juggle a blended family, I invited her to experience a great coaching time but assumed she wouldn’t be able to continue due to money. But before I could fully explain to her what coaching was she asked if it was covered by insurance. Surprising. I guess we shouldn’t judge too soon. . . Oh. or never. She will call me or I’m to call her in two weeks, after the extra little feet scurry back to mama and she comes up for air.

Todays invitation went to Eugenia. She is on her way recovering from Burnout, know back working though with a different outlook on life. I know she has some major changes she would like to accomplish in her life and I would love to coach her on those. This is another e-mail invitation as I did not reach her over the phone, but I will follow up.
Got a respons from my second invitation (Oct.24th Ingegerd). She turned me down this time but is “keeping the door open” for the future.
My schedule got a bit screwed up today, but I did manage to listen to the recording from the Call on October. 23rd. Full of inspiration from that I know look forward to following up on the e-mailinvitations I’ve already done, planning some bulk e-mails to follow up with personal invitations by phone or in person.
It’s going to be an interesting November month!

I’m interested in marketing to that industry and plan to invite a large number of Brokers/Owners to do exploratory sessions. As a group, they are ceratinly having some challenges now and it’s easy to locate them.

Today, I invited Cheryl. I invited her because I invited her about 3 times previously and, although she never says yes, she never says no—I’m sure some/all of you have had this experience! I feel called to keep connecting with her in the spirit of “claiming” her until she gives me a real no.

I spoke live to a former colleague, an R&D Director, Rich, who is at the Silcon Valley site that will be downsized. His position may be salvaged but he still wants to put his toe in the water to see what’s out there. He gave me a resounding YES because he wants to explore his options. We have it scheduled for next week. He’s also going to send me his resume and we’ll connect on LinkedIn. We talked about a direct report who has already been let go and and he’ll pass the word on to him about the free session. This site is going to be my focus as the time is right!

Had a session with heike today, who started her own coaching practise early this year but feels stuck to expand. She would love to work with me and will go for at least one month but was going to sort out her finances to see if she can go for the full 6 months!
So much fun to connect and share in this way:-)
Then offered my graphic designer a session today and he or his wife, or both, will be booking in soon.
Also had a session today with inge, who is looking at ways to let go of old limiting patterns, and that went well. She is exploring some of the different techniques I teach and is interested in my upcoming workshop.
Feeling a bit tired today from all the extra paperwork all of a sudden but it’s a good kind of tired:-)
    Have a good weekend everyone,

    blessings,

Today I invited Beth and Teresa W., 2 leaders of a growing women in trades association, to explore the possibility of coaching because I worked in the construction industry for 18 years and would like to share my wisdom and experience with them. They are excited, and we’ll be meeting the 2nd week of December to explore things further.

Update: Met with Debbie W. today, and she hired me. She is looking at which coaching package she wants. Ditto for Jan P.! 2 new clients in one day – gotta love it!

    This is a great program!

I have two sessions scheduled today – just had the first one, with D from the event last week. He’s totally keen – needs to check with the wife about $ and choose a package.

Between the two sessions, I’m going to a huge high-end crafts fair nearby to talk with talented, energetic artists, make invitations, and hand out gift certificates. I’ve printed 40 – target is to make at least 15 invitations and get at least 10 yeses.

Then back home in time for session 2, who seems already very hungry for what I’m offering.

Oh, and it’s gift certificate pitch day.

    Big day ahead!

    Total invitations so far: 14

Results: 2 working out money, with scheduled follow-ups

Day 8 – I invited F.R., a former colleague who is trying to accomplish a dream she’s had for a while now. She accepted. So far have had yesses from everyone; have most people actually scheduled; others still need to get on their calendars. Conducted a session last night with W.D. She has always been unsure and (I think) a bit skeptical about coaching. She had a positive response as we worked through an office situation she’s been struggling with.

    Sessions invited: 8; accepted: 8; conducted: 1.

Just did an intro session with my friend D. She’s writing a book and we had a great session, motivating her into gear again. I didn’t feel right about asking her for money so instead I made the suggestion that she refer others to me when she hears anyone talk about a problem they’re having and she agreed. I will contact her again soon, to check on progress and ask her to write a testimonial.

Suzanne B: I love your phrase “rampant behaviour” hehe.
Jill Wells: I am in AU also. I already have a buddy in the challenge but would be interested in doing swap sessions with you if that appeals.

Faye – and anyone else interested:
Might you be interested in exchanging some of our “too close” friends?
We could agree on terms: say, we have spoken with them and they didn’t want to with us because we’re too close.

I’ve done this successfully with other coaches. It’s a great way for both of us to potentially get new clients!
MiMi – you make me smile. Good for you for modeling a positiveoutlook for us!

Dr. Lorrie – Too Cool how you asked the sales guy on the phone! \”/ And I LOVE your “score card on the bottom for the week. HUGE CONGRATS for the nice pile of $$$. Nice modeling! Go Girl!!

Today my focus was on other responsibilities. Yet due to our challenge, I really spent a lot of time thinking about coaching and going over the many new things I’m learning from David and from you all. Thanks!!

I invited Jeremy, a young computer geek friend of my son’s – because he was there! I’m emailing him our specific coach time for next Tuesday evening, per our agreement. I can’t believe myself! I’ve gotten so I’ll ask anybody anywhere any time. Wow. I’m sure this rampant behavior will calm down. But meanwhile I’m sure developing some great brain patterning. (Per Suzanna’s comment: Maybe the reason one of us misses is we’re so busy DOING the intro sessions and signing people up left & right that we don’t have time to call new folks? \”/ )

Just called a fellow student from the Life Coaching Academy to see if she would like a free session. I contacted her because I’ve not heard much from her since we finished our practise sessions and I know she’s had some challenges to deal with since then. When I called she was in a store purchasing a massage machine for her back as she’s had to deal with a lot of pain since a car accident 14yrs ago, which has caused her to put her coaching studies on hold, but she’d like to get back to it and was very appreciative of my call. Mary R. will give me a call when she’s back at home to arrange a time and date.

Didn’t even need the script. He’s signed up for next Tues at 2pm.

I called today to confirm tomorrow’s two consultations.

I also left a message for MB, who has invited me to possibly do a workshop with her – very exciting!

Today was mainly “study day” for me, and I had an amazing experience on my walk while doing my “mind power” practice – visualizations and affirmations, etc. I was creating myself as “focused and courageous”, and from the moment I walked out my door, just about everyone I passed was catching my eye, waving, lighting up at the sight of me, starting a conversation – one guy even stopped dead in his tracks. You gotta get – I do this walk every day, and here in New Jersey, that just doesn’t happen – usually people don’t even look you in the eye. And today I was dressed rather drably, with no makeup or anything, not exactly looking my best, and yet you’d have thought I was the bird of paradise. Quite extraordinary!

    More later, perhaps.

Communicated by email with a former associate who will be in career transition shortly and he accepted. I used a mutual friend to forward my email as sometimes ‘big brother’ dumps it in junk mail. He responded almost immediately. In December the CA R&D group of the division I use to work for will be defunct – moving operations off shore. I offered my assistance via a free session. I sincerely feel for these people, some of whom have been there for 25 years, so I really would like to help, even if it’s pro-bono. This division may be one to focus on because the need is becoming more real to them with lay offs starting to happen.

Had a session with one of my clients today and she mentioned she had forwarded my note to two people. The web is expanding. I feel it!

So happy for all of you – I can sense the energy, commitment, and drive. Yay us! Thank you David for providing the structure that benefits us all.

Thanks, Beth. I’m at the airport again right now! I sharing a table with a nice man and have chatted with him, but didn’t have the nerve to ask about a session LOL He just walked away for a minute, so maybe I’ll mention it.

I did call a friend today, Leanne, she and I worked together and planned six events for a local non-profit this year. She is going through a lot of change – she is very interested, but wants to wait until after the new year… claims of no time to schedule it.

Okay, so I just asked Ronnie, the gentleman at the airport I’m sitting with now. I told him what I do and my challenge and invited him to a session and he said yes! Woo-hoo. We will talk in the next couple days to set up a time!

Hello fellow 30-dayers! I got my first committed (but not cash-in-hand yet) client since the 30 challenge began! Janna, from day one, has committed to a monthly, 1 hour coaching session for $150. a call. Her company is paying for coaching, so I have to invoice the company. Not sure how quickly that will process, but I’ll take it! Today I’ve invited Bridget to be a client. I invited her because she was referred to me by a friend and my friend told me Bridget was really interested in coaching and asked my friend to have me call her. I left her two messages and am waiting for a call back. Love the discipline of this and reading everyone’s activities!!

Todays invitation went to Helena who is an accountant today, but has started to “branch out” into holistic therapy like Reiki. Would love to coach her through this changes in her life. Couldn’t reach her over the phone so my invitation went out by e-mail again. Really looking forward to following up over the phone though.

    Whoohoo! I got TWO Yeses!

I sent an email to one of my mailing lists from my self-help newsletter
and two women responded (so far): Teresa, a writer, and Colleen.

I emailed them some times, suggesting times on Monday and
Tuesday (to give me some prep time).

And this afternoon, I’ll have my exploratory session with Suzanne.

    This is exciting!

Yesterday, after my session, I went into town for a massage and before going to my appointment stopped in my favorite tea shop. Came to talk with the girl who works there, Charlotte, and she was really interested in what I do so I invited her for a session.
She was dealing with fear of flying and I shared a few examples of people I’ve coached through this. Having been a flight attendant for 15 years this is a piece of cake for me:-)
    Am awaiting her response.
Today received a request for a sample session from a friend of the client I coached yesterday. Am connecting with her next week.
Just gave a session to Christa, who is dealing with overload from her studies and combining it with work. She will be coaching kids so this was a great opportunity for her to experience a coaching session herself. She would like to join my upcoming weekend workshop the end of November.

It’s a revelation to me to experience how many people are interested in coaching and find this offer to be a great way to get a sense of what it’s about without feeling obligated. Then to have them experience the possibilities… lots of fun!

Right, off to my next session:-)

    blessings,

    Tina

Today I invited Joel D., who I’ve met a number of times at networking events, because he is a likable man who shares admiration and respect for Bob Burg, author of two books I highly recommend: The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea, and Endless Referrals: Network Everyday Contacts Into Sales. In a recent correspondence, he expressed an interest in learning about my business, so I wrote him that the best way to learn about it is to experience first-hand the magic of coaching…and offered him a complimentary session. I’ll let you know his response!

Danny Freeman: I encourage you to be sure that this woman’s brother is ready, willing and able for coaching before accepting the project. If he isn’t, your efforts will be ineffective…and frustrating! I turned away a similar situation because the “giftee” wouldn’t even take the initiative to schedule a session. That said, I have coached weekly a woman’s son for the past 3 years, and she pays for the sessions. He is one of the most coachable young men I have ever known, truly sees the value of having my ongoing support, and has experienced such growth and expansion we are all blown away! In fact, his mom is now going through a challenging time, and he insisted she call me. I’m now coaching her weekly, too.

    My best to you all,
    Patty @ Life by Design

That’s fantastic Lynette that you are having fun with this.

It’s amazing how many opportunities show up when you are actually looking for them.

Tina, good for you for putting it out there to that stranger at the airport.

Dr. Lorrie, isn’t that funny how we tend to discount before we even get a response?

Reading everyone’s invitations, I can tell everyone is also learning and refining their invitations. Is it feeling easier inviting people?

Happen to be at a conference of colleagues this week so its easier to make contact than usual but still wouldn’t have happened without 30 Day Challenge.

Management team has been exploring the whole area of coaching.

I approached a member of upper managment with respect to the advisability of having a sample session so that he knows what its all about. He enthusiastically agreed.

    Will now approach each one.

Day 7: I received a message from Susan G. yesterday, after she added me to her Facebook friend list. Invited her to a free session as I haven’t seen her for a very long time and wasn’t coaching back then. She said it would be fun to share again, and I agree 🙂

I haven’t been much in the mood to call people to invite them to sessions as over the last month I’ve been working on writing up a research project I’ve been working on for the last 9mths and haven’t wanted to be distracted from that, but finally I’ve finished it, yay!!. Tomorrow I will proof-read the project in the morning and finally submit it, allowing me to spend more time on this challenge. It’s a good thing too, as I have my second intro coaching session booked for tomorrow.

Day 7: Sent out a few e-mail and phone invites (no one home) to a few previous clients who I had provided Human Design Readings for earlier in the year to see if they wanted to explore going deeper into integrating the strategies into their lives with coaching.

I also had 2 exploratory sessions today. John signed up for at least a few months (yea!) at $350 per month and is also going to make the offer to his wife. (The first month net is $300 after a $50 off promo from the presentation I did.)

The second one is interested in working on her weight issues but not at this time due to work constraints. She did however say she was going to recommend me to a mutual contact that is currently ‘stuck’.

I am really appreciating having the capacity to participate in this program. It is helping me to focus and refine my approach. Thanks!

Left a message for John, my hairdresser, today.
    Waiting for call back.

I know he’s going through some changes and
could use a bit of support. And he also is well
connected (tee-hee) and so if he DOES do a
session with me and likes it, he might tell
others. I’d certainly encourage him to do so.

Will follow up with another phone call in a
day or two if he doesn’t call back.

Looking forward to my session with
    Suzanne tomorrow.

Boy, this is fun I am running into people eveywhere I go and asking them to join me for an introductory session. I prayed for God to open doors and boy are they opening.

My goal is to reachout to at least six people tomorrow. I am also building scheduled time into my day to do nothing but work on this challenge. I am going to make a larger list and reasons why I would like to coach each person.

Thanks for getting the juices going………

Yikes, I almost forgot to update today. Big project today: making and sending some gift certificates for an event. Hopefully that will result in some session requests and new clients.

The two guys who are scheduled for sessions on Friday have e-mailed me with the answers to the questions I sent them, so they’re on track.

I had an online conversation with someone today who’s a videographer.

Gotta make some time to call some of my prospects tomorrow and/or send a bulk e-mail. I have many I could call or e-mail, and that’s why I’m here. Gonna make a plan with my coach about it tomorrow morning.

    Thanks, everyone!

Day 6: Called two more people (Van and Rebecca) as a follow up to the emails I sent out on Monday. Had to leave a message for both of them to call me back.

I have two sessions scheduled, one this Friday and one this Saturday.

My plan tomorrow is to add to my list of people to either email or call based on my relationship with them and their general availability (some travel a lot and email is often a better way of touching base). I’m also going to look at my list of overseas clients. I hadn’t thought about them before but phone rates are much easier on the bank account now and time differences can also be worked out. I want to get my list as long as possible.

I was co-facilitating a workshop in New York City today with another coach, and at the end of the workshop I told the group of 16 people that we would be happy to give sample coaching sessions for either leadership coaching or organizational coaching to any of them. Four of the people said they were interested, and a fifth person said they may know of someone else who is interested.

Day 7: I had my exploratory session with Karen – it went very well and she signed on as a client! It will be on trade as I met her through a bartering group we both belong to, but it’s still great to have my first new sign-up since beginning the 30-day challenge!

Today, I also followed up with Quetah who claims she would love to work with me, but that she just doesn’t have time to schedule even a half-hour session. So, I left it that it’s open and if she even wants to go have coffee and chat, we can do that whenever she is ready.

Today, I had another no to an invite, it was a complete stranger at the airport that I briefly started chatting with while waiting for a plane – Don works in the steel industry. But wow, it was fun to just put it out there in a totally new way! I’ll have to work on that a bit.

Dr Lorrie: good for you, you are worth it!

Sharon and Irene: I like how you are keeping track of your progress. Today I found myself pulling all my notes together to see who I needed to follow up with, etc. So I may also start a tracking of my progress, thanks!

Health issues means pacing down with regard to my coaching business this week, however sticking with the challenge.
