This is Monday’s post – I had a business call with a Banking VP to talk about adding coaching to their grant. Their program is for entrepreneurs who are in the transition of taking their business to the next level. I offered her a trial session and she said yes. I’ve sent a couple dates and times that work for me. Waiting for a response.

Things are getting pretty business – NEAT!

I invited a friend, Pamela, by phone yesterday, Sunday Oct. 26 for a trial session and she said yes so we have it scheduled for Tuesday. She wants to decide whether to transition out of her job and focus on her writing and yoga business. This serves as my Sunday post since Austin was not able to access the site after trying ALL day (see previous note.)

Also on Sunday, Oct. 26, I sent a note out to 52 people – friends and former colleagues. I have several trial sessions scheduled as a result with one today with Jackie (new job transition) and another tomorrow with Cathy who wants to be in career transition and more to come.

Cathy, mentioned above, called me back today and aksed if she could refer someone to me who also wants to be in career transition. The Universe at work!

Again, on Sunday I sent out a note to my clients and former clients – I have one referral from Zakia to Donna who is interested in setting up a trial session, date TBD.

Invited another collegue to a trial session by a personal directed email. Used David’s enthusiastic approach and again would not have approached this particular person without the incentive and courage resulting from the 30 Day Challenge.

Followed up on my first approach from last week. It turns out individual is having serious problems marketing his business. Almost to the point of despair. We are starting with a trial session next week.

Reading through so many of your experiences, approaches & results is so encouraging and helpful to me. Thanks for sharing!

At a friend’s tea yesterday, I sat next to LB, who was in the high school musical group my husband & I helped lead 36 years ago. As I shared what I was doing now she expressed she had heard about coaching. When I asked if she’d like a comp. intro session, she was delighted. She emailed her phone # & I’m going to call her by tomorrow to set it up.

I just finished two introductory sessions. One is a friend too close to coach well, but she appreciated the time and agreed to do the fieldwork assignment & report back. A good experience for me.

The other is R., hu of a friend of long ago, who had been coached in business relm. So the personal coaching we did was very smooth and rewarding for both of us. We’re set for the same time next week. The only thing is they’re financially crunched (how novel! \”/) and we didn’t discuss money. That conversation with my new clients is still a hurdle for me. I’m going back & listening to David’s call and sample material. I think there’s help for me there!
But I’m also all ears if you, my fellow 30 day challengers, have suggestions.
Do share what has worked for you!

What an amazing fun time I’m having. I’m astounded & this success & joy makes my socks roll up and down! Thanks, thanks David & crew

Two of us in Austin were unable to access this blog site to post yesterday. I tried all day and lots of different ways, e.g. trying to access it through a link, and from the download page link with no success. I also tried two different computers, and two different wireless sites. The support site was also unavailable. Caroline called in a incident and was told that the site was fixed – however, neither of us were still able to post. I see that the access has now been fixed.

I hope that this site error will not disqualify us from meeting the 30 day posting requirement. There was no lack of effort on our parts. I had some very positive news to post which will follow in another note. I’ve submitted this to the support center. Thanks.

I invited Diane L, who had visited my booth at a recent Expo. She is going on vacation and will call when she returns to set a time. She gave me permission to contact her if I don’t hear back from her by 11/25.

Bonus! I also invited Jason S., president of a local networking organization chapter(www.yellow-tie.net), as am I. He called about something Yellow-Tie related and then said he wanted to know more about my business. Turns out he used to work with a coach, had great results, and is interested in the possility of doing it again. He said that the only difference between this past year’s results (poor) and the year before (record-breaking), was that he had a coach the year before. He was hesitant to set the appointment, though, before talking with his wife. I’ll follow up again next time we speak if I don’t hear back from him.

I’m stuck…I’m asking one a day, but only strangers and random auaitences. I have an untapped close contacts list. I am a VERY new coach and have a bit of fear and lack of confidence. I wrote this killer email I was going to send to my close contact email list and for some reason I am fearful of sending it. I think I am worried I won’t live up to the peoples expectations of me or mine for that matter! I have a few amazing clients and do feel I am good at it, but keep hesitating to introduce it to people I know. Maybe they don’t know this part of me yet and it’s weird…
    I’m up for suggestions!
Today I invited someone at the store who was talking about time management issues and gave her a card, but she said sh’d have to check her schedule and give me a call.

    Rikke – 3 for 3 that’s great!

Danny – I’m glad to see you aren’t letting procrastination stop you.

I love hearing how people are seeing more opportunities around them.

Wow Wendy you are really ramping up the invites.

Mimi, you can find the email template on the download page. It is the PDF of call #1.

Tina, I would definitely listen to the audio. It really helped energize people and showed authentic invitations that made it seem almost easy. Yes, 30 session invites in 30 days. Ideally it would be at least one a day to get into the habit, but we have no way of tracking that. So at least daily posting of your invitations.

I am impressed with how you all grabbed hold of this challenge and took off with it!

Approached a young man I’ve been working alongside. He has indicated that he’s been languishing a bit and can’t decide between a couple of directions for his life.

Suggested that we get together for a trial session this Saturday. He responded that he could probably use counseling. I explained the difference between counseling and coaching. He said, “You get paid for this!” I responded that yes I did, that I occassionally foregoed the fee but usually get paid but that the session would be just a trial with no fee and no obligation.

He did buy yet but I think he will.

Day 4 – I called a friend of mine who runs a dating agency to see if she had any clients that she thought could benefit from coaching. She gave me the details of Natalie who I phoned – she’d had a string of unsuccessful dates and wants to learn more about herself in the hope that she can find a partner more successfully. Very happy to come in for a intro session – booked in for next week 🙂

Today I invited a family member of mine who I feel is a very gifted and talented woman. She’s also a person who is at that point in her life where she’s searching for fulfillment, purpose and meaning in life. She’s always been in the service of others, so it’s going to be an easy transition for her to living a purposeful life using her talents and gifts in the service of humanity. We will setup the time for the session this week.

Irene: Congratulations! Tim is a great person, I’ve talked with him a few times and reviewed some of his materials. Feel free to contact me anytime to share ideas, concepts, etc… I believe the more people who are helping others live more purposeful lives, the better!

    Night Everyone!

Day 4: I’ve started sending out my email invites! That will help me take my daily calls up a notch to stay on top of my follow-up calls. At church, I’ve invited Mary to an exploratory session. She said yes, and we plan to meet in person next week – I will be out of town for a couple of days this week.

She has had some depression over family and pet deaths and wants to move ahead and explore life more… her husband is not as active in that way.

    Day 4:

Hi all, I love the inspiration! I had a sample session with Jared this morning, and he brought up a good point, don’t forget to tell them what your ideal client looks like. Jared is a close freind, I don’t particularly want to coach him, but he thought of two peple right away when I mentioned that I was looking for people you know who have magic in them, but their stuck by their own thinking. Later today I was at my sisters house for my nephew’s birthday party. I ran into a soccer buddy, Maritn, there who happens to be a CEO in my town. I told him my coach challenged me to get people to sample sessions, and then asked him to set one up. He was up for it! All this while my wife is in Hawaii, and I am looking after our four year old daughter, and 2 and a half year old son. Could have been plenty of reason to procrastinate again. Instead with a challenge, and a little focus, I feel the possibilities I know are out there. Thanks for setting this up David, now more people in the world are being exposed to coaching, and more coaches seeing the possibilities of the life they are seeking. It is such important work! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings 🙂

Day 4 – Invited a friend, W.D., who I know is unhappy in her job. She’s open to a session and we’re going to schedule the time tomorrow. I don’t expect to end up coaching her (she’s a very close friend and I think it would be inappropriate) but she knows a lot of people and is interested to know more about how coaching works, so I expect she can give me referrals.

    Hi guys,
David – you are wonderful!!! I asked a friend, Manjri, tonight just because I didn’t want to miss a day and I thought she would be fine with it. She is Indian and not only said yes but said that she will refer me to her friend who is also Indian and is like the mayor in her community meaning that she may be able to connect me to others. She thinks that the women in the Indian community could really use my help! I am almost in tears – these past 4 years of only having 2-4 clients at a time and now all these possibilities. Thank you so much David!

Mimi – the e-mail from David to sent to our people is in this link: http://www.SolutionBox.com/30daydownload.htm

Joshua – I’m training to be a life purpose coach. I’m going through the process myself first (Tim Kelly’s program).

Thanks to all who responded to my fear about mixing busines and personal relationships! I love how honest we can be here.

    Day 4 (Sun 10/26):
I went out to a concert of a fellow barbershop chorus last night (Saturday) and to the after party, where I gave out two cards and made one offer – total of six for the day! She provided the reason for the offer herself when she read my card and asked, “Do you work with non-artists too?”

In a busy, noisy, crowded room, I managed to get myself seated right next to all three featured quartets, the best of which just announced they’re breaking up. I was looking for an opportunity to ask at least some of them, “So what’s next?”, but they were singing and talking with each other almost non-stop and it was tough to find an opening.

I had contacted R from last week’s event on Thursday and scheduled to call her back today. I did that, learned more about what she’s up to (healing through music), and offered to help with that by inviting her to do a session. She’s going to check out my web site, and I’m to call her again in a week.

Today was open-art-studio day in my town, so I updated my business cards, which I’ve been meaning to do, printed out a new batch, and visited 5 artists in their homes, plus a group of artists at a gallery. I had conversations with about a dozen people, mostly artists and musicians, handed out a bunch of cards, and made three offers – all to artists who want to make money at their art (my niche). One (S) I’m to contact this week to set up an appointment, one (J) has a check-in appointment in a week, one (L) is getting divorced and wants to talk in two weeks.

When I got home, I had just received an e-mail from B, the musician I invited Friday night, asking “What’s next?” I left him both a phone message and an e-mail in reply.

Called my friend C to follow up on her interest from yesterday – she said she’ll call me tomorrow.

    Revised total invitations yesterday: 6
Invitations today: 4 / Total so far: 13 (10 of them on the weekend!)
    Sessions scheduled: 2 / Sessions delivered: 1

Todays invitation (Oct. 26th) went to Maria, the daughter of good friends of my parents. Our paths have crossed now and then over the years due to our parents knowing each other, however we have not spoken in a few years time now though. I know her life has followed a similar path to my own, though totally different professionally, which means she has do deal with several life balance issues. I hope she will take this opportunity to explore coaching.
Looking forward to the traditional working week getting started so I can expect som feedback on the invitations that I’ve sent out per e-mail, continue handing out invitations over the phone and face-to-face and do some follow up.
Congratulations everyone on your progress so far!

    Hello 30 dayers
Today I invited Paige to meet with me for a sample session and an opportunity to design a coaching relationship she can afford. I invited her because she is a client of one of my clients and they have told her “you have to work w/ Julie” — gotta love those referrals! I’m hoping to meet with her next week.
Listened to the recorded call today–good to hear everyone’s voices and get tips on making the sample sessions work. For straight life coaching clients, I always use the wheel of life for a sample session. It gives us both a place to start and is a great snapshot for where they are in their life that always leads to a valuable coaching session.
    Take care,
    Julie

I had a coaching session with Sandy today. I invited her because she had expressed an interest in previous classes I’d given and turned out she is at a complete crossroads in her life so felt the timing was perfect. She wasn’t ready to commit to investing in coaching due to having spent so much in the past which hasn’t worked.
However, she was willing to use one of my audio’s for the next 21 days and report back to me on her progress.

As I only just now got the download page info, I haven’t listened yet, but was just wondering, is the idea to offer one session a day for 30 days or to extend at least 30 invitations? And then however many sessions from that?…

In any case, I have found it quite an extra workload scheduling everyone in but at the same time I am delighted at how many people say this is exactly what they were looking for:-)

I enjoy reading everyone else’s posts!

Have a great day and have fun coaching:-)

    blessings,

    Tina

We’ll talk on the phone about actual scheduling since she’s very involved in the pre-election canvassing activities. Still, I look forward to it. And I’ve finally made some progress. Nancy is working on building a career as a singer/songwriter, and this can help her accelerate her progress I believe…

Today’s invitation went to Jeannie B, Executive Director of my local Chamber of Commerce. The reasons to invite her are many!
*They just moved their offices, and she has a full plate keeping things going there, so I imagine her stress levels are pretty high (my specialty is stress management).
*I like her and want continued success for her.
*She has mentioned an interest in me speaking at a Chamber event, and I think it would be helpful for her to have experienced what I do to go ahead and schedule it.
*She could be a great referral source for me
*And…she was actually in my dreams last night, so I HAD to listen to that (I seldom remember my dreams!)

Thinking of her inspired me: Given that my passion is serving business leaders and executives, I will revisit my list to include more of them!

I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.

Day 3 – Went out with friends for dinner last night, told them about this challenge and they were all excited to help me. One of them recommended I call a friend of her’s who’s going through a bit of a tough time – Jen – which I did today. She’s not sure if she wants to book in for a session but I followed up with some info on email and will call her again to check in next week.

I invited A. to a complimentary introductory session. She was estatic as she is contemplating a career shift. The only thing is I must not breath a word to her Mom, my good friend. \”/ to be set up next week when she has her work schedule.
Today I did an introductory call with K., who “wants more love in her life.” We’ll finish up in a few days because she is recouping from an accident & got tired. But she realized she was sloughing in some negative patterning for failure and came up with several strategies to positively impact them. A disabled single mom, she doesn’t have much money. But, unless someone has another suggestion, I’m planning to invite her into a coaching relationship for 3 months, telling her what I charge and accepting what she would be comfortable paying. What do you all think?
My introductory session with E was amazing. She is a writing professor, but experienceing severe writer’s block. Asking her If she had – quoted back to her her words – what would she have? what would that do for her?. As she verbalized that she got quite excited and agreed she would expand on that and write as much as she could along that line. Very fulfilling for me and I’m excited to see what she comes up with. And of course if it frees up her writing her story.

Today contacted a collegue struggling with new responsibilities. A rather intimidating individual whom I would never have approached without the incentive of the 30 Day Challenge.

Momentum is building. Excited to see where it will lead.

Did an exploratory session with Michelle S. today. She invented a product she is working to take to market and wants to learn how to have balance and organization in her life. She had positive results just with the introductory session and will let me know this week her decision to sign up.

I used David’s email template ( wonderful by the way! ) and invited 5 of my friends whom I know are always searching for just ‘the right’ business or venture to start. I haven’t heard back, but will be calling them to follow up on Monday.

I invited them because they are always searching and never seem to find exactly what they’re looking for… I’d venture to say that this is because they really don’t know what they’re looking for, or what’s missing. So I know they could benefit from my Life Purpose Coaching, as well as my Purposeful Entrepreneur Bootcamp.

I was returning a book to a friend of mine while I was waiting for her, Margret a woman I have never met before saw the title of the book about EMDR and asked if that is what I do…. well there’s an easy invitation to open a conversation. She’s professor at the University of Calgary (for the last 19 years) and is doing some outside private instruction to businesses that aproach her, well this is exactly what I’ve been coaching trainers to and speakers to do for the last few years (I just haven’t formated it as coaching, till now) we’ll set a time next week for do an initial assesment and then I’ll attend a few of her classes as part of her coaching. She really wants to have her classes become engaging. She teaches english literature.
I’m also in the market for a car (a small SUV) so the first one I look at is owned by a semi-retired gentleman, we go for a test drive and he just opens up about all the Tramatic events he’s been through in the last several years. The car was a standard (which my wife “won’t” learn to drive) so I didn’t buy the car, I did get the set up to call him tomorrow about coaching him through his past few years of tramatic incidences. I do “Tramatic Incident Reduction” or TIR (it permanently reduces or removes the negative charge from tramatic events, or experiences). WOW and today I was thinking who am I going to call. one fell into the seat beside me and another set up for tomorrow.
Oh and I bought a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe for about Half what they bought it for new. What a day!

oops, forgot to mention why i invited Janet on FB… we were fellow members of a womens investment group a year or so ago and i was interested to see how she’d gone with what she’d learnt. she’s had a baby in that time and now that she’s focusing on her new business she has her hands full.

I invited a friend whom I haven’t seen for quite some time to an intro session on Facebook. She emailed back saying she has a lot on with starting a new business but that she will keep it in mind. I’ve replied back asking if she might know someone who would like to make a change in their life, so we’ll see. 

Today I emailed Lori H., a woman I knew in my previous career in construction, and whose path recently crossed again with mine. She is up to big things, and would definitely benefit from a coaching session. I’ll let you know her response.

I definitely see the value of extending invitations every day, and even though I have been in business for some time, it’s not a habit I had developed. I have started a list of those I want to include. I’m looking forward to developing this habit, and so appreciate this chance to do it, with all of you!

Thanks for your inspiring posts, and best wishes for your continued success!

Today I talked with a friend, Doris. She and I volunteer for the same nonprofit organization. I’ve known her a while and invited her to an introductory session. She is a very busy woman between her volunteer work, her work work, and her family. Her reaction was that she didn’t really have the time. We talked a little more and she agreed to talk again later next week to discuss the possibility of making an appointment. I’ve put her on my calendar and will contact her next Wednesday.

Day 3: I invited my friend, Susan. She owns a coffee/bagel shop and had it for sale, but recently changed her mind, though she told me today, that she may still sell it in the next few months, but isn’t exactly sure what she wants to do. So, she is the perfect candidate.

She said it’d be a good idea for her, but didn’t commit to an appointment… yet. I plan to follow up with her on Monday to get a set date/time.

I also am working on my email blast, I have saved it, but not sent it yet. I am going to do an update to my website tonight/tomorrow and send the emails out after that.

Today’s invite (Oct. 25) went via email to a friend who is a lot of fun. I have no idea if she will take me up on the offer, and am waiting to hear back from her, but I do know that I would be happy to coach her because she is fun to be around.

    Day 2
I extended an introductory session to an associate who is struggling with her self esteem. She has expressed certain desires for herself but is more vigilant about living up to the opinions/images of others. I approached her about receiving coaching to create the image she wants from the inside out.

I was shocked when she said “Yes” to the introductory offer. Since I’m just starting out (on my own) I am thrilled with the reception. I’m looking for more experience and am anxious about asking for money from people I know. I’m going to branch our more next week. Both opening sessions will be held within the next ten days.

I’d be a great partner, if you are looking for someone encouraging with whom you can be accountable

    Hi again,

I also realized that I didn’t give reasons for some people I offered to so here goes: Reena M. – because she is nice and open minded. She can also be a good referral person for me. My sister just surprised me – she is doing it for the fun of it and I’m coaching her because she said “yes” anb because she needs more proactivity in her life. I followed up on a past offer for a session to Eva because she said that she never pursued her love of dance. I also followed up on Dara from a networking event 2 weeks ago – we had talked about a swap.

Total offers so far: 5 – that’s huge for me!

Today’s invitation went to Daphne, an old friend from grad school who I saw last weekend at a reunion, and who e-mailed me saying she was so intrigued by what I had said about coaching, she wanted to learn more. So I e-mailed her today and suggested some times this week for us to have a sample session by phone. This one was as easy as falling off a log!

    Hi all,
I sent out part of my bult e-mail. I don’t want to send it to more than 100 people at once or I fear that I won’t be able to keep up – is that okay.

I invited Yolanda R. because she is in the human service field and probably would enjoy this. Also because she’s very nice and I’m still nervous about this.

Big question – I am feeling funny inviting family, church acquaintences, and friends of my family members. I am fearing that they will be offended at me mixing business with personal relationships. What do you think?
Are these just “gremlins” or is it legitimate.

This challenge is *definitely* getting me to do way more than I even imagined I would.

I called and reached DA today, one of the people from last week’s event who I’d been playing phone tag with. I don’t usually make calls on weekends, but the three-hour time difference was getting in the way, and this seemed like (and was) a good time to catch him. He wants to make a film – right in my niche – and I love his energy. I answered some questions, offered an intro call, and we scheduled for Friday.

I also had lunch earlier with four friends. Two of them were actually clients of mine years ago, early in my coaching business. I’ve felt for a number of years that I’m past that stage of asking friends – did that, worked great, don’t need it any more, but since I’d promised to make invitations daily and wasn’t sure I’d reach DA, I thought, why not, and I invited all four. Given what I know of their current circumstances, I didn’t expect any to say yes, but one (of the former clients) surprised me by saying she’d been thinking about starting again. We didn’t schedule, but I’m in touch with her daily, so we’ll have that conversation soon.

Total invitations today (on a weekend!): 5
    Total so far: 8

Todays (Oct.25th) invitation went to another Anette. I hope to add her to the network of people with businesses complementing my coaching or of interest to my niche clients. She works as an organizations consultant and I’m guessing sitting in the client chair for once could give her some well deserved acknowledgement and encouragement (now why didn’t I put that in my invitation..).
Starting follow-up calls on my invitations on Monday.

I’ve identified about 30 people to focus on for contacting. I’ll add to the list as I go. Some would actually be corporate referral partners. I still would like to offer them a trial session so they understand what coaching is and how I work.

I invited three people by email. I find that in the corporate world at least, I get a better response back that way rather than leaving a v/m. One in particular, Lee, is in one of my two niches – corporate leaders in new roles who want to leverage their strengths to accelerate the learning curve. I let them know that I’m in the challenge, and that it will assist my professional development. It would be a win-win because they would walk away energized, clear, focused, and even jazzed and I would have one more person knowing what I do so they can pass on the word. If we end up working together, ALL THE BETTER.

Today’s invitation goes to John. I invited him because he was referred to me by another coach who has a conflict and cannot coach him. I left John an email message that I will call him on Monday to schedule an appointment to meet in person.
From Thursday, see previous posting, I invited Janna because she was referred to me by her boss. I emailed her boss my rates and availability and hope to have our coaching commitment secured by Monday.
From Friday, see previous post, I invited Jim because he also was referred to me by another client.
I also emailed a client, Carolyn, to let her know that she only has one session left and invited her to renew. I know this doesn’t count for the 30-day challenge as she is a current client, but wanted to capture it here anyway.
Looks like a lot of positive activity already!

Well, I asked someone I have previously coached through a lengthy major exam preparation (successfully) and am currently helping with another project, and she said NO.

She has friends for that kind of thing, she said, and prefers our relationship to stick to the professional stuff.

Ooookay. Actually, I can relate to that. So now: Next…
