The following is an excerpt from the\u00a0CoachStart Manual<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Many new coaches I work with make a very simple mistake in their early sessions.\u00a0 \u201cHow did your Exploratory Session go last week?\u201d I ask.\u00a0 \u201cGreat!\u201d they say.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m going to call her next week to set up a time for another session.\u201d<\/p>\n

Can you see what\u2019s missing here?\u00a0 They are still <\/em>not this client\u2019s coach.\u00a0 They are just someone to talk to if the client has time next week and still feels interested in coaching next week.\u00a0 You know how you can pick up a self-help book whenever you feel like it and put it down when you feel like it?\u00a0 In the above example the coach is playing the role of the book!\u00a0 That\u2019s not coaching.\u00a0 Or more precisely, it\u2019s not a Coaching Structure.<\/p>\n

One thing that separates coaching from many other professions is the client\u2019s commitment<\/em> to his\/her coaching goals and to a particular time frame working with the coach.\u00a0 This way, it doesn\u2019t matter if the client gets busy next week.\u00a0 Their session is scheduled for 3pm Thursday, and that\u2019s that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
