How creative are you? (prize)

How creative are you? (prize)

Posted by David Wood |

Next week I’m in Hollywood to film a 60 second viral video for the book trailer.

We’re thinking a funny video like a mastercard ad, that doesn’t refer to the product until the end when you see a simple tag line.

I need your ideas for a video script/story. The selected idea will win the Internet Clients Professional Training Program (retailing at $2,995) and an ad in my newsletter to 65,000 coaches. (Please post publicly here – I’ll be able to see if you were the first with it).

SOME INPUT/CONTEXT FOR YOU
– The book is called ‘Get Paid For Who You Are – Share What You Love Online, Impact Lives, Work From Anywhere, and Free Up Your Time’. And the tag line at the end should be ‘Get Paid For Who You Are – www.GetPaidForWhoYouAre.com’

the book teaches 5 simple steps to create a life of freedom….
– Location Freedom to work from home or Hawaii
– Time Freedom to work 2 days a week or take 3 months off
– Financial Freedom to have a second income or never worry about money again, and
– Inner Freedom, to express who you are, do what you love, and make a difference in the world

Don’t try all these ideas, just create a funny video idea that makes one of these points….

Can’t wait to see your ideas!

David

Finally, I located the information I was searching for. I have been doing research on this subject, and for two days I keep finding web-sites that are supposed to have what I am looking for, only to be discouraged with the lack of what I needed. I wish I would have located your website sooner! I had about 25% of what I needed and your site has that, and the rest of what I needed to complete my research. Thank you and I will report back on how it goes!

thanks to everyone who did because it made very interesting reading.
I must say that there are some creative people out there and some of the
    ideas were absolutely awesome!
Good luck David, I hope the trailer is a winner and the sale of the book
    is a great success.

    Hi guys –

well it seems the winning idea came from the film producer himself! I want to keep it under wraps right now so I’ll privately email those of you who posted above to let you know what it is!

But – for outstanding effort – and because I might choose a couple of ideas from the above list to do in addition to the big budget effort, Thomas and Stuart have been given their choice of several Solutionbox products. Thanks so much for playing – this was really fun.

    Another strong one Stuart.

Samuel – nice one! Or instead of wonderful he could say “Brutal”

See me note on the new thread. I’m pretty sure we have the final idea. I might email you guys (off blog) to get your thoughts on that. Want to keep it hush hush for now.

    Keep it simple:

David is napping on the beach somewhere in paradise. Everything is bliss. An annoying pager goes off with an electronic voice: “You have a meeting.”

He wakes up, rolls over stretching his arms and flips up his lap top. He flips up his lap top, does a few clicks, the sound of a cash register chime.

David closes the lap top and breathes a highly satisfied sigh and then eases back into his beach chair.

His wife/girlfriend/friend who is lying in the chair next to him: “How was work today honey?”

Shot up close of David’s face. “Work?…” He slowly unfolds into a beaming, blissful smile: “Work was….wonderful….!”

Cut to a shot of the book: “It’s not really work when you’re getting paid for who you are. Get Paid for Who You Are: a new book by David Wood etc.

Thomas that is a great idea with the you tube video.
I need more time to think about Wilson and his humaniterian side. Which I have to say is HUGE, He brings people together to play volley ball, He is a pillow for those who are tired. He gives hope to those who feel they are drifting out to sea. I know I could go on but, will stop because I have another idea.
    Here it goes.

    – Somewhere in the world a boy tells a joke in class and makes everyone laugh including the teacher. (Image of Boy in class smilling as class laughs)
-Somewhere in the world a Hammer is bought to help Habitat for Humanity build a new home for a family in need. (Image People building home for habitat for humanity with happy family in front of it.)
-Somewhere in the world a leader is born ( baby being born)
-Somewhere in the world a bandaid helps heal a childs skined knee (Image of Mother putting bandaid on child)
-Somewhere in the world a person is healed. (Older person in hospital gown thanking doctor?)
-Somewhere in the world a bobble Head on the dashboard of a bus is giving directions. (bobble head in old dusty bus in Puru?)
-Somewhere in the world a star is bought and named after a family member named big Bertha, or Chubby cheeks. (large woman reading letter in front of birthday cake candles lite.)
-Somewhere in the world a dog poops on the lawn of a mean neighbor. (image of Dog.. well you know)
-Somewhere in the world an anonomous donor pays for a desperate students college tuition.
-Somewhere in the world right now a person is breaking a world record (forest Gump running)
-Somewhere in the world a star is born. (A student gets their deploma)
-Somewhere in the world someone is recieving a check for more money they ever dreamed of. (Person jumping up and down hugging people)
-Somewhere in the World you could be paid for who you are.

Find out how with David Woods new book – Get paid for who you are.

you guys are brilliant. Some really funny and powerful ideas here – it’s really got me sparking. One I’d like to flesh out a bit…

STUART & OTHERS: this idea of Wilson traveling – my concern is just that it might seem a little shallow – like he’s a celebrity with the trappings – but it’s not showing him impacting people’s lives. Hmmm – maybe he’s getting a humanitarian award? lol – he’s speaking on stage, but not doing anything, and the audience is getting restless….He’s chilling on the beach with a laptop, he’s playing with the family (wife is a baseball, with little ping pong balls running around…)
(btw that bobble head cracked me up!)

I liked Stuarts fade in fade/out with the photos of famous people. Those images are instant recognitions of success. Which is what the people buying the book I believe want. I do. Famous actors, Rock stars, Millionaires is the life I fantasized about as a child. As an adult I love the idea of having their money, power, freedom, and ability to impact the world on a greater way. The book would be associated with these people who we all know made it. Having those poeple associated with making it and being who they are is inspiring to think that hey they are not much different then me. I do not have a college degree. If they do not have one and are that successful then maybe I to am not at a disadvantage to be a millionaire as well. Davids book can be the how.

I swear this is my last post….. this is the one….

use the viral footage that is already out there…..

Ive seen this youtube where a guy is holding a cigarette in his mouth lights a match, flips it over his shoulder and somehow miraculously lights his cigarette

Ive seen a big hefty man naked in some kind of thong dancing on stage

ive seen crazy kids breaking bones doing all kinds of crazy stunts

an elderly woman getting down in spandex to the song baby got back

I get jostled, laugh, or cringe everytime I see a feed. They are quite a scene. depending on the content.

show a bunch tied together in a feed and at the end the tagline:

“GET PAID FOR WHO YOU ARE…..”

if copyrights are an issue I already have a perfect solutional campaign that could easily overcome that hurdle. heck if youd like i could even come up with specific visual footage that would be appropiate for the feed.

make a few. the variation will appeal to a larger audience as each individual spot can be tailored to specific markets and others can be test markets to reveal psychographics on who is interested in what type of material. then it can truly be a positive viral campaign. You can update it periodically or have different versions. Perhaps two or three per target market, the more variation, the more viral it could become.

I am bursting with ideas if anyone is interested in giving me a legitimate marketing job.
but Idd here just gave me an idea. I had to read his post like three times before I grasped just the subject matter of his post. After I realised he wasnt throwing out an idea it hit me…… wow… how does a gentelman such as Idd become succesful with such a complex eccentric communication style.
Being a business and social entreprenuer myself (struggling and not yet successful) I came to a conclusion that the post was a message that only a communally involved person working on promoting eco community initiatives through participatory training in lHides&Skins tanning/leather technology,
leather manufacturing products, ecofarming/slowfood philosophical processing and production approaches would come to truly appreciate. none of those qualities are on my resume. Or have I ever even pondered if I needed one.
Idd forgive me, my regards no insults personally intended. Socially and theoretically your message is sound but from a communication perspective your really pushing a hard sell, and the innovative solutions and social strategies you present have been attempted I would say at least since the industrial age. anyways it gave me an idea
    And I had a picture….
you can either portray a visual depiction of an internet evironment
    a swap meet
    a mall
or even just various store fronts one right after the other

a woman or gentelman or THE VIEWER (as seen through the camera lens) is visiting and enticed by various merchants to buy their wares.
the problem is that the products are so outragously innapropiate (ridiculous, useless or convuluted) and the merchants can be depicted in any hilarious fashion you choose. EXAMPLES

    Store #1
“JOE’s Wedgie shack” Joe (wearing overalls, scruffed, balding) closeup on joe: ya need a wedgie? I give em pretty good?

    Store #2
“Sarah’s talk shop” Sarah: (she just keeps on talking blurting out various names and gossip Talk talk talk talk talk..)

    Store #3
“Steve’s T.V. lounge” Steve is reclining on a lazyboy with an empty one next to him. Steve: Sit down bass fishing is startin in five minutes

at the end just the tag : Get paid for who you are

How about a plain looking person walking in a colorful maze. Looks up and jumps out. Starts an adventure wearing different outfits (different characters) chooses one (freedom is choice). There you are looking fantastic as you move along- everyone around feels something and wants to know who you are – Shaking hands with individuals, meeting with Boards of Directors, interacting with small teams, and working teleconferencing or different areas with computers. Then vacationing in luxury, enjoying family, money, homes, friends, hobbies. The end –you are speaking before a crowd, like a stadium, with the tagline: Get paid for WHO you are!

I like Stuart’s idea and also Thomas’ comment about that, because it stops the consumer from writing this off as out of their reach.

There are so many ‘blue sky, blue water’ ads out there, selling ‘the dream’ (who’s dream WAS that?) and I swear half of them have the same ‘deck chair and yacht’ shot, but when its like a fixed shopping list of trappings, it just replaces the wage packet as goal. I like Stuart’s idea because I think its important to avoid telling people what they should work towards and desire, beyond freedom to choose, as that’s the antithesis of valuing their individuality. If you can’t avoid holding up examples altogether, its important to show as wide a variety of personality types and personal goals as possible.

    Nice one, Stuart.

How about a guy (who cant sing) singing a song in the shower and making the most horrible noise in the world. a record scratches and the guy makes a face.

a mother her hair messed up horribly in the car driving like a mad woman. she suddenly stops the car and looks back. her children are mortified by her appearance.
Mother:see I told you wed get here on time. the record scratches.

A college student with her ipod in the library dancing away as shes looking for book. she realizes no one is around and begins to lose herself and get into the music. suddenly a whole class comes around the corner and just watches as she puts on a small hilarious performance for them. she does a dance twist only to find a whole group watching her….. the record scratches

at this point you can either cut the film there or continue the footage with each one of them somewhere in hawii
1)Singing with a lei on stage (the gentleman)
2)Sipping coconuts from the beach (the mother)
3)Dancing with the natives in dress (the student)

Or even all three of them together in one scene at Hawaii

I like the last posting about the fade-in/fade-out pictures of celebrities except that celebrities will not be the target market. if I were to tweak the last posting it would be the same concept except it has to be pictures of realistic ordinary people.
fade in picture: Mary Jenkins-dedicated mother of three, fun to be around, housewife $135,000 fade out

Fade in picture: John Staples- wwII veteran, good-listener, Grandfather fade out

    ECT ect ect

you dont have to be famous to get rich…. Get Paid for who you are

    NOW For my original….
I See a combonation of the movie “Mystery Men” (The scene where the UN-superheros are trying out) and the reality tv show “American Idol”

David in the middle with two other judges at a table for auditions
    NEXT……
    In walks the first entry.
David: what will you be doing for us
Contestant: Belly dancing while reading shakespear(as she proceeds with her act)
    NEXT!
Contestant walks out recieving a check as she walks out the door
    In walks second contestant
David:(weird face) what will you be performing today
    Contestant in american flag getup
Contestant: ill be performing the national anthem while gargling soda pop
    NEXT!
contestant walks out being handed a check by a david
in comes a little girl, our third contestant…
David: what will you be doing for us sweetheart?
(Little girl looking very nervous confused and motionless)
she pauses… it gets quite… the camera pans between you and the judges and the little girl, back and forth…
    Suddenly…
Little girl: I can do this (she places her hands upside down on her face making peepholes for her eyes like a mask.)
    quick pan to the judges
The little girl approaches the table and david hands her a check…
    David: Nice face
    Little girl (mouse voice):Thank you
pan back to the judges all three looking intently at each other.

I had the idea of a guy who has inner freedom, the ability to express who he is and who makes a difference in this world. A quick-witted guy bursting with mischief sits at a conference table of bored business people listening to a drab presentation full of with pie charts and bar graphs. Our hero flicks paper footballs, throws paper airplanes and tosses paper wads at others around the table when the boss’ back is turned. A voice over says, “Ever wish you could just cut through the routine and be your own boss?” The pieces of paper are opened up, revealing messages like “my boat is docked and ready to sail”, “your turn to bring the beer”, “I’m kicking your butt on Wii tonight”, as the boss finishes his presentation, everyone is amped with anticipation. The boss turns to our hero and says, “anything to add, David?” “Nope, it’s everythings set to go.” The boss says, “Great! I’m bringing my swim trunks for the jacuzzi!” Everyone cheers. The bit ends with “Get paid for who you are.”

I liked the two ideas already posted, and would like to say to Ellen who is critical of you – why not use David as a model of how you can succeed rather than resent that he is using others for ideas.

Anyway the idea that I had was of a dog being taken out for a walk (you don’t see who is at the other end of the leash until the end) and a voiceover is talking about all the benefits he has in his life, or maybe it could be balloons out of his head as he thinks about all his good fortune. At the end the camera moves across to the owner and says something like “and this is just how good his/her dog’s life is” or “who is this lucky guy” or something like this. You will figure out the right thing. Good luck!

I think you should encourage people to empathise with the ordinary guy who NEEDS this book (Ray Romano or Woody Allen crumpled-shirt-collar, adorable but slightly beaten kinda guy).

Coldly lit, empty white set. Start character Woody-Ray alone centre stage sighs, scratches head, looks down at pad in hand, licks pencil, goes to write, but gets stuck. Starts mumbling childishly/endearingly ‘I hate my job, I hate my job, I really really hate my job’ over and over, broken by occasional loud sighs, as he wanders off toward the back of the shot. Meanwhile other likeable, slightly tired looking characters, male and female step into shot, each pacing or acting confused, each one reciting one thing over and over
“gotta get this done gotta get this done”
“gotta do this gotta do this”
“I need the money I need the money”
“I reeeeeally do not know why I took this job…”

When the shot is pretty full of people and the muttering is one wall of mumbled noises (how big is your budget? – you could cartoonise and pan out to an overhead of hundreds of ’em)….

Enter David from the right (Stage left) under warm light so he looks a bit sunnier than the rest, ambling in in black tee-shirt & cut-offs or cargoes, obviously bumming around, looking a bit bemused, carrying a top of the range fishing rod or brand new collectors guitar (‘bum with serious cash’ look) and a foldaway chair. David opens chair and sits centre stage. Golden light expands so he’s sitting in a pool of summer sunshine that contrasts with the grey around.

Woody Ray approaches and looks sarcastic. Stares in disbelief and stops mumbling. Then says “OK. Whatever. I’ll BUY it. WHAT are you trying to say?”

Voiceover as fade to shot of smiley David on book flycover, or smiley David holding book up to camera –

My thought is show a picture of a child saying…”I want to be a astronaut (or whatever) when I grow up”….then show a picture of that child grown up – looking frustrated sitting in a cubicle with phones ringing etc (can be a comical situation – like phones ringing, spilling hot coffee on the shirt before a meeting, etc.). Contine through with several children….with their aspirations of what they want to be when they grow up – and then the grown child in a unfulfilling job. At the end, a brief message about children and dreams, and making them come true then showing getpaidforwhatyouare.
My other two cents worth….is although i enjoy a commercial that is funny and doesn’t refer to the product throughout it, I rarely remember what the product is later. Hope you like my idea. Good luck!

Can be used with lawn nome, but was already used in commercial.

In the kitchen woman calls out “Hunny have you seen Wilson?”
Next scene Wilson (yes the volleyball from the movie Cast Away staring Tom Hanks) is in a first class seat on an airplane with a hawiian belly dancing bobble head sitting next to him smiling. Next you see him (Wilson) sitting at a fancy resturant at a candle lit dinner with a real model. Photographers taking photos. Next the model is walking down the board walk by the ocean with Wilson under her arm in sexy sleeveless dress. Next Wilson possibly steaming with model in bed next to him. Next Wilson having camera men shoot pictures of him as he sits on the steps ready to board a plane. he boards first class seats in airplane. Next stewardis asking for an autograph. Next scene Wilson pulling up in a limo to the house. Finally, Wilson on the front lawn. Boy walks out of the house picks up Wilson and yells “Here he is mom.”
Next scene black with words in white read “Wilson costar with Tom Hanks in hit movie Cast Away”
Have voice over say: “Get paid for who you are”.

Free to choose to what you shall be un-free. Freedom is a great sounding word but essentially it is a choice that once made eliminates other choices. Though it is a philosophical point, the contrasts maybe of a decision tree, or the road not taken versus the one taken=choices. Maybe a giraffe with its’ long legs trying to straddle both paths because it can’t decide, or the proverbial donkey between two bales of hay that starves to death because it doesn’t know which bale to start eating, or a person on skates, with legs going different directions. (Love the image of Ichabod Crane riding off in all directions as the old poem goes.) So starting with a decision tree path and then these various images at different forks in the road since you want humour. So maybe just before the end say ‘which one are you?’ Then Get paid for who you are.

Sunny Pool scene family of two with bathing suits on.
Opening shot father putting zinc oxide under 3 year olds eyes. Wife calls out can you help Joe son age 5 with his flippers. Next scene Dad goes over with zinc oxide and puts it next to son on the chair he is sitting on. Dad is kneeling in front of 5 year old who is sitting on a chair having difficulty putting the flippers on. Shot is on dad and sons feet not on sons head. 3 year old Girl walks by as she over hears dad saying to his 5 year old son. Who do you want to be when you grow up. The girl responds he should be a pickle head or (some remark like Go Diego go or Nemo etc.) A shot of the wife bikini lounging on deck chair sun glasses reading. you are looking sharp! walking down the street by a nice restaurant and people in the restaurant rush outside, all of them trying to get through the doorway, just to see you walk by, you look over your shoulder with a slight GRIN,go across the street, walking through a park someone is catching a frisbee sees you and fumbles the catch when they see you, you reach out your hand and help them up,there’s that grin again.Next your sitting in your car at a stoplight and people all around you are staring and pointing, the light changes green and they see that grin again as you pull away in your exotic car.Next scene you are coming off a plane, the crowd in the terminal begins to cheer as you appear into view and BIG grin . . . . “get paid for who you are”

Of course these scenes can have all kinds of gestures from people looking over their newspaper,or sunglasses, etc as you go through your day. People are saying “who is that” or “do you know who that is” through the process of the day.

Good luck with your video David. Sounds like a book that will add value to people for sure!

That should have said: Get paid for WHO you are!

Then there is the simple ridiculous:

A star trek fan in costume on a BB… riding a bike along the beach…

Get paid for WHO you are. any questions? getpaidforwhoyouare.com has the answers.

Well … I see it a little differently:

Great music and gorgeous action clips of various people doing what they do: Mom playing with kids, talking on the phone, cooking …
    business man/woman holding a meeting…
Woman with friends over coffee in deep discussion
Realator writing up a contract …
Athlete competing or coaching another competitor…
    Gardener … builder … sky diver…
Woman doing Yoga … Personal trainer …
Nanny … Teacher … Swim instructor with kids … Dance instructor …
    Therapist … a party w/hostess … wedding consultant …

the fading in and out question title for each: Who are you?
Voice over: Get paid for what you do …

Sounds like a great book and lots of fun…. my idea…

Open with fast pace scenes, with upbeat, hip music withyou ( David ) doing the things you LOVE the most having a full out happy or content experiences… for example: sailing on a boat with friends, laying on the beach with lots of cool people partying, out dining in awesome restaurant, walking down the red carpet with the spot light on you, even sitting and writing or reading with nice cup of coffee…looking really content…and in EVERY scene, your doing your thing and people from everywhere are just throwing cash at you.

Basically leaving the viewer to say, what the heck does this guy know. He’s happy, he has it all and he’s kind of oblivious to ll these people just throwing cash at him…

The only voice over would be at the end:

Now it’s YOUR turn: Get Paid For Who You Are.com

Really hope you pick this idea! In my head, it looks awesome and people will want to click and buy!

You want ME to write your script? And if selected, I attend one of your seminars? And all the emails you gather are used for your future marketing. Looks like you’re the one living the life of freedom, got everyone else doing all the work.

How about – Make More Money Than Your Wife (spouse) Can Spend!

The theme is like the guy who can’t help it, but keeps making money without trying and his wife (or spouse) goes out shopping, eating, boating, spending using a debit/cc and is really trying to max out the cc cards, but can’t seem to do it because there is a clock in the corner of the screen and every second more money is being deposited into his account.
